my new 1992 f150 4x4 manual tranny question or two
Hi everybody I bought a 1992 f150 4x4 and need a manual transmission. I did some research and I think it has a mazda built M5OD-r2 4 speed with overdrive tranny...anyways my question is what is the newest manual tranny that will fit in this f150 ? would it be a 1996 model? ,...I have a 302 small block...also what other vehicles have the same tranny that I could pull one from? I think the m5od-r2 tranny may be in f250 2 and 4 wheel drives but is this tranny in any other vehicles?
Another question ...will a M5OD-r2 tranny from an f150 or f250 with a 351 bolt right on to my 302?
Thanks in advance for any help on this matter

You need another M5 4x4 trans, a 2wd trans will not work. F250s and larger trucks got the ZF5 trans which is stronger but has a granny low first and may not be a direct swap using the same driveshafts.

here is the deal with ZF's
S = Designates a synchronized transmission
5 = number of forward gears
-
42 = Approximate maximum input torque capacity in tens of Ft-Lbs (42=420; 47=470)
Available in wide ratio and close ratio. Wide ratio were available in all f-series trucks over 8,500 GVW, all engines. Except the F-Super Duty Commercial Stripped Chassis with diesel engines. The close ratio version was available only with F-Series vehicles with a 7.3L diesel engine over 8,500 GVW.
--------------------------1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th rev
Close Ratio
Diesel ------------------ 4.14 2.37 1.42 1.0 0.77 3.79
Wide Ratio
Gas/Diesel --------------- 5.72 2.94 1.61 1.0 0.76 5.24
Looks like it has a much lower reverse gear...
Thanks very much for your help
300, 302 and 351 all have the same bolt pattern correct?
