you will need 12 volts to the fuel shutoff switch, and 12 volts to the glow plug circuit.
but getting that engine to work in the truck is going to be a different matter.
what trans do you plan on using?
none of the dash gauges will work because they all go through the computer, and the IDI is all mechanical. you will also have to do something with the fuel circuit. the IDI is a low pressure fuel system, 7 PSI. the 04 has a high pressure fuel pump, upwards of 40 PSI.
The '04 had a 5.4 and auto transmission. I've got the 7.3 mated to a 5spd transmission and transfer case. It's all bolted in the truck now. As far as gauges go, I'm planning on a custom mechanical cluster. By the way, where is the fuel shutoff located? Also what are the wires for that are near the oil fill neck with a round plug?
timing advance and cold idle are set by the temp switch located just forward of the fuel filter housing.
this is for cold start, just add 12V+
power to the switch, or do a manual switch
My swap only required three wires to be functional- The red with a green trace which is switched 12v for the FSS (also signals the glow plug controller, and powers the high idle and cold advance solenoids through the temp sensor), and the two big yellow wires for the glow plug power. Those need unswitched 12v but a large fuse is recommended, like a 100 amp megafuse. Those wires only carry current when the glow plugs are running, but they get a bit warm over a ten second glow.
need a 200 amp megafuse and 4 gauge wire for the glow plugs. You may want to think about swapping out that 2G fire-prone alternator for a much more reliable 130 amp large case 3G, bolts right on, just need a single wire for it.
