4.5L repower to 6.0L In a LCF
Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with the torch approach was hoping that would not be necessary. The 6.0 should drop in where the 4.5 came out of. I will be adding length which I think I have room to do. I did get a doner 05 f550 single cab. I have the complete electronics to change over. Not sure why you would go with the Isuzu over the 6.0. My end project is a rollback tow truck with power to spare.

Hi Delusion,
Since I last replied to this thread the price is now up to "approximately" $14,000. I've put the job on hold and the shop is waiting for my reply.
I'm simply weighing my options at this point.
Where are you located? I'm sure we're not close geographically as I'm located in Vancouver, Canada.
If I could get the job done for around $7000 I'd invest the money and sell the truck. I just don't have a lot of faith in this engine, as you might imagine.
If I could find a little cummins for this truck I'd probably do that and keep the truck.
Any thoughts and/or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

I think I would look for a shop that can do a real scan on your motor and at least a second opinion before a teardown. You might want to visit Dieseltechron on youtube. Some real good information on the Ford diesel engines. He covers the 6.0 powerstroke which is the 4.5 less 2 cylinders pretty much has the same issues.

Find someone to put gaskets on it for $3500 or less.

Junk 4.5 with 65000 miles Locked up
I know it’s been a couple years but we bought a truck like that had major issues what did you end up doing with your motor issues ???
Hi Guys,
Question:
If my diesel engine is apart and has been diagnosed, shouldn't the shop where it's in for repair be able to give me a firm quote, from that stage of the job, to completion?
Back Story:
I'm one of the many that am stuck with a Ford LCF with a bad engine. It's a 2007 and I purchased the truck in early 2009 and am the original owner. It currently had 46,000 original miles on it.
A couple of weeks ago, it was driving to a supply yard and it starting bucking pretty badly so we pulled over and stopped immediately.
Upon getting it diagnosed at a local diesel shop they determined that the connecting rod bearing on cylinder one was spun and a new engine was going to be $25,000 Cdn.
I called 2 other shops and they didn't even want to look at it once they found out about what it was.
I reluctantly went to the dealership where I bought the truck and talked to them and they said they thought they could fix it.
Turns out that they can fix it and, as we speak, the engine is out, disassembled and the service manage says they know how much labour costs will be and are 90% sure on the parts. As it stands they "think" it will be $7,000 with parts and labour when they're done but they're asking me to be prepared for up to $9,000, "just to cover our ***." He says that once they get into the assembly of the engine they may require more parts to complete the job.
Does this sound fishy or am I missing something?
Thanks for the time. I look forward to any opinions I can get before proceeding.

New to this forum so hopefully this is the place to post my question. I have a 2006 LCF.
It has recently started to lose power on occasion when we are driving it. Sometimes won't start back up.
We usually pull over and let it "rest" for a minute or ten minutes and then it starts and drives fine??
The blower seems to come on a lot more as well.
Wondering if this problem seems familiar to anyone?
Thank you.

The General Diesel Discussion forum is pretty slow and your question might not be noticed buried at the end of an old thread. The 6.0l guys should be able to help. Good luck!
BTW, you could always rip out that 4.5l and swap in an old 6.9l IDI. Heck, you could even get one with a turbo on it and you'd be set to go.

4.5 excessive crankcase pressure
Well I picked up a 2008 LCF With 68,000 miles. Blowing oil out of dipstick holder.. paid $11,000 & drove it 350 miles home. Lost 2 quarts. No smoke from exhaust. Ran 85 mph dropped to 60-65 on long inclines -- turbos would whistle an wind up kick in and back to 85. It beed at mechanic for 2 weeks and he doesn't have an answer for the high crankcase pressure. Any one with advice or had this issue?
