9 NOS AM/FM Stereo Dial Radios (not FoMoCo) Found

I think this is appropriate posting this here, didn't want this buried in the Marketplace. I wanted a stock AM radio in my '68 but they are few and far between and pretty beat. I found an eBay listing for a NOS aftermarket radio and I just put it in tonight. Fits really well, looks great, and sounds pretty darn good. Install took about 40 minutes including yanking the PO's 90's cassette POS. Got it for $35.00.

Search for "NOS AM FM FM -MULTIPLEX ADJUSTABLE SHAFT RADIO". Guys got 9 left.

I bought the same type of thing for mine a while back. Had really bad alternator whine through the speakers. I never got to trying a Hood grounding cable. How is yours?

When I installed a 8track am/fm radio back in 1978 which my truck never had a radio in it before, picked up a lot of engine noises & whining. I did add the noise resistors to the coil & Voltage reg. that did help cut the noise way down when radio was in the fm mode.

Also added hood grounds an made sure I had the resistor spark plugs.
AM mode was just Mexican polka type of music with a lot of engine noise.

Is this so-called 'NOS' radio aftermarket...or not? Could be genuine Ford "floaters" that someone found in the back rooms of dealers and/or radio shops that Ford contracted with for warranty repairs.

This radio looks just like: D7AZ-18806-A (replaced D4AZ-18806-B) .. AM/FM Multiplex Stereo Chassis that was used in 1974/79 cars & 1975/79 Econolines.

Bumps have two different capacitors (look like condensers) used for radio noise suppression.

All I said was...that this radio looks just like the one that was used in the above vehicles.

In order to verify, you would have to look at the one you installed to see if it has a Ford ID number stamped on the side, back, or on the top or bottom of it.

Something else I noticed: The outer 'chrome' radio ***** are exactly the same as used on 1973/79 cars, 1975/79 Econolines, so they're probably genuine Ford.

D3AZ-18817-A .. Outer Radio ****. The inner 'chrome' radio ***** could be D1AZ-18830-A (1971 cars, 1971/79 F100/350) or D2SZ-18830-A (1972/79 cars; 1975/79 Econoline).

I don't care either way on the eBay radio.

I just want to know if radios out of 74-79s will slap in our trucks.

You may have just installed one.

What aftermarket company would have made a radio that matched the Ford original back then? I dunno, it makes no sense.

If you went to Pep Boys, NAPA etc, radio shops back then to buy a radio, it would not have matched the genuine Ford originals or come with genuine Ford radio *****.

There are probably 10's of 1,000's of various types of "floater" radios today in the back rooms, basements and attics of dealers and radio shops.

I didn't just install anything. The radio in my truck is an original 67-72 AM with the push buttons that i pulled from the salvage yards 10 years ago and installed ten years ago. Had I known I coulda put in an AM/FM outta some other old ford, I'd have done that instead. Maybe you've mistaken me as the starter of this thread.

I just want to know if I can go to the salvage yard and pull an AM/FM radio out of a 74-79 Ford and put it in my truck. I'm not fond of AM only radio.

Sorry, I did.
1967: The dash is 1967 only, as is the radio and heater.

1968/72's use a different dash, radio and heater.

So back to my question. Will an AM/FM radio out of a 74-79 Ford fit my 72?

The AM/FM Multiplex Stereo radio pictured by the OP in post #1 looks just like the radios installed in 1974/79 Ford & L/M cars and 1975/79 Econolines.

But without knowing if it has a Ford ID number stamped on it, it may fit, it may not.

Let's forget about the radio the OP put in post #1. That radio is meaningless and irrelevant.

If I go to a salvage yard and find a 1975 Ford Econoline and it has an original 1975 Ford Econoline AM/FM radio in it with a Ford ID number stamped in it, will it fit beautifully in my truck?

I dunno if a dent radio will fit in a Bump. I do know that Bumps take a real short radio chassis. Not much room for one. As I recall the wiper motor is directly behind the radio. I don't remember if the Dent chassis was the standard car/truck size or shallow Bump size.
