8 ft flare side pick up bed - novice mistake
I bought this bed to replace my bed and it didn't fit properly. It was advertised as early 60's pick up bed. I thought it was interchangeable from 57-72. The step is 5 1/2" longer than my original bed. I need to identify what year it is. The tailgate is 54 7/8" wide and the step is 28" long.
Any help is appreciated.

This is not a F350 9' Express Bed, due to the length of the running boards and the L/rear fender with the tire well used for spare tire clearance.
B7Y-16450-A Right & B7Y-16451-A Left .. 37 1/2" Running Board in front of rear fenders: 1957/72 F350 with 9' Express Flareside Bed.
B7D-16482-A Right & B7D-16483-A Left .. 25" Running Board in front of rear fenders: 1957/79 F100/250 with 8' Flareside Bed.
B7C-16482-A Right & B7C-16483-A Right .. 17" Running Board in front of rear fenders: 1957/79 F100 & 1975/79 F150 with 6 1/2' Flareside Bed.

B7D-16313-A (replaced BAAD-16313-A) .. Left Rear Fender with Tire Well (Cut-Out) for Spare Tire Clearance: 1957/79 F100/250.
This L/rear fender was not used on the 9' Express Flareside bed, as its bedsides were longer between the cab and rear fender, so there was no need for it.

B7C-8340700-A .. Flareside Tailgate - 49 13/16" long: 1957/79 F100 & 1975/79 F150 with 6 1/2' Flareside Bed.
B7D-8340700-A .. Flareside Tailgate - 54 13/16" long: 1957/72 F350 with 9' Express Bed / 1957/79 F100/250 with 8' Flareside Bed.

The 61'-63' LWB F100 & F250 have a 122" WB which is 4" longer than 57'-60'... if the CA dimension is the same/similar (can't find these specs so far), then it appears you rear axle/tire would come close to center of fender if your 118" WB was 4" longer.
The 64' LWB is 128" & 65'-66' LWB is 129", that's 10-11" longer than your WB ... too long for this 8' bed set-up and the 67'-72' LWB are 131", even longer.
My best guess would be this 8' bed is correct for a 61'-63' LWB F100/F250 with a 122" WB. Jim
