I recently put fresh clutch kit in my 85 f150 300 with the four speed. The transmisson
worked fine for about 3 weeks then last friday it devolped a new noise I am knot sure tranny or rear end what it does. It up shifts normally and smooth but when you slow down in gear it makes a grinding or winding noise and makes the whole truck groan and shake its not the u joints and i just changed the rear end fluid but the way it acts I think it's in the drive line or maybe a slave clynder
Yep i changed the pilot bearing with the one in the kit . and the throwout bearing . if the bearing had a defect why would it do it only when you slowing down in gear. I am still miffed
The throw-out bearing shouldn't, but the pilot bushing could. It allows the pilot shaft to wobble in the rear of the crankshaft when not under load. But if you changed it and it fit both the crank and the pilot shaft it should be fine. I don't suppose your transmission has worked loose from your bell housing? Just throwing around ideas in that area since the only thing you have done is replaced the clutch recently. Hopefully I can come up with something else later.
I think you for the advice but i sucked it up and went to a driveline shop today. They checked the tranny and rear end found out that my pinnon gear and ring gear a toast . I'm going to put a junk yard rear end and bump the gear ratio from 2:43 to 3:08
I found that it is also a good idea to mark the driveshaft and put it back the same way it came out. Some are balanced and if you put it back 180 out, it can cause shaking, rattling, etc..
