1960 f100 fuel and temp gauges dont work

Ive got a 1960 f100 and the dash lights didnt work. I took the instrument panel out and replaced the bulbs, nothing changed so i decided to take out the head light switch and when i did the lights on the dash worked, took the truck for a drive and the fuel and temp gauges didnt work. So went home and took the dash out again, dash lights dont work and neither do the temp and fuel gauges. I have no idea whats wrong with them. Should i replace the headlight switch to fix the dash light problem? And should i replace the fuel and temp gauges?

First of all welcome to the fridge forum!
I would start by cleaning all connections, then check for proper power. The gauges run on reduced power. The electrical system uses the body and chassis as ground so all hot and ground connections need to be clean and tight. Use a meter to confirm. When you have sketchy grounds your lights and gauges can do some odd things.
If you don't all ready have one, a shop manual will save you time and money. Walks you through testing, repairing and replacement. You can pick one up off EBuy digital or paper.
While you are there pickup a laminated copy of the wiring diagram.
If I don't, someone else will mention that we need pictures

your voltage regulator is for your charging system. The voltage relay is what helps your gauges work. Ground the wire that goes to the sending unit. The fuel gauge, shows empty, grounded it goes to full. Temp is cold, grounded goes to Hot ect. The voltage relay is located on the back of the speedo cluster. Has 2 terminals. If I remember correctly. Hope this helps
