Question IST Products mass air kit

I would like more recent information about the Interactive Systems & Technologies Ford truck mass air conversion kits that SHAMI02 wrote about in his 5/16/2001 post ("we have a winner"). I'm very interested in their kit right now for improved mixture and combustion control for heavy towing. My '88 EFI 460 Speed Density system is stock, on a 460 that now has a mild RV cam and head flow work, done mostly in the intake side where '88 heads are very restrictive. I installed an AutoMeter digital A/F mixture gauge in the dash, and the EEC IV is keeping the mixture stoichiometric all the way down to 3 inches of vacuum at any engine speed, finally going to about 9% enrichment at 2 inches and below---not good for the engine if towing up a long grade at throttle settings with 3 to 8 in. vacuum, where I've had it ping back when my hearing was able to hear it (!!) Would like to learn more about folks' experience with the IST conversion on their 460 EFI trucks. Anything you can provide will be welcomed with thanks.

I'm interested in your cam and problem, as one of my '89 460's is scheduled to come out soon.

Promar Engines uses an RV cam with specs:

Duration= Intake 212....Exhaust 219

Valve Lift= Intake 490....Exhaust 495

Lobe Separation Angle 114

Which is apparently good for speed density.

What are the specs on your cam?

I have nothing but great things to say about IST, the kit they provide is very well thought out kit. Everything you could need minus the wire cutters and soldering tools.

1988-97 FORD F-SERIES 7.5L (E4OD) MASS AIR CONVERSION KIT - Fiveology Racing

Check out these guys also. Much better pricing. I find IST's pricing insulting.

Thanks. Have searched for info on their kit, and been to website. They largely don't answer the phone, it seems (site only offers "message" page, no direct email or phone--had to find phone by other means). Those things and the large price gap have me thinking I'll "get what I pay for" more than tempted to take the lower price. Comparative comments from any who have seen both up close would be appreciated. Don

Puddy: Have you or someone you know well installed one of their MA conversions, hopefully on a 460, but if not on a Mustang small block? Would like info from actual use and technical support contact during an install, if I can get it. Thanks, Don

Thanks, Puddy, for the link to your 11/13 post with IST kit instructions. Since you mention no issues, I gather the several years since doing it have gone well? Any problems or tech support experiences worth knowing?
Didn't realize till reading that original EEC IV computer is removed completely and new one substituted. If as directions note a "new takeoff" factory unit is supplied that's reassuring.

Thanks. Getting 1988 Ford lt truck manuals CD so I can get the Emissions volume H and be sure I understand well before starting. Have rest of manuals in print, but none show details I need incl how to find and remove 60 pin cover of EEC IV PCM. I know it's there against driver side kickplate under dash, but access is still not clear. Just a steel cover is all I see where it should be. So maybe I'll be laughing in a month or so.

Thanks, Puddy. I think they moved it after 88. I have diagrams before and after, and it went from under dash to the outside firewall spot in your picture. The diagrams aren't as good as pictures, though! That CD is in the mail to me, hope it helps. Otherwise will just have to attack best I can.
