Great news on the auction truck I bought. I think it runs just fine; it's just missing the exhaust system. Sooo, Ford wants $2400 for the cat.
I believe that it is illegal to remove a factory-installed emissions control device from a vehicle, and I really hope they catch the guys that stole this one, but I also believe that I don't wanna buy a $2400 cat, and the junkyards don't resell them.
So, the easy solution is a straight pipe at the local muffler shop. Or, one of the aftermarket kits plus a straight pipe. Being a wild and crazy guy, I'm considering going back to the auctions in search of one that's been totalled, except for an exhaust and other parts I can use on my two trucks. Just haul what's left to a scrap yard.
What say?

reading some of the write ups on upgrading to a turbo back exhaust, they talks about cutting the tail pipe right before the tranny crossmember. Don't any of these aftermarket products bolt to the existing flange, right where the cat fit? I'd like to do this myself with parts that bolt right on where the stolen ones came off.

Is there any reason I couldn't buy a stock Walker exhaust pipe and muffler and just have a muffler shop replace the cat with a short straight pipe that bolts to the existing flange of my stock downpipe? Or, are those stock parts as much as the aftermarket system?

This is what I would do, it's a little tight getting the 4" down pipe in but can be done.
