6.8L Oil Drain Plug Torque Spec

2005 6.8L V10

First oil change since ownership

Looking for a oil drain plug torque spec. I searched and most every response was "Install a fumoto drain valve" or "Probably like 25-30 ft. lbs."

Need actual question answered please - have had bad luck in the past with stripped oil pans...if you are wondering why I'd torque the oil drain.

I highly doubt it's anywhere near 25-30 ft. lb.....

Also, do these motors use oil drain plug seals/gasket, or is it built into the plug.

Thanks
Mike

I just tighten it up until it's snug. Use a shorter handled wrench so it's harder to over tighten it.

I never torque the drain plug. I just tighten it 1/4 turn past finger tight. no need to tighten it that much. There should be a kind of washer with rubber on it. if it doesnt have one it doesn't need it.

Unfortunately I've had bad luck with this method - I really just want to know the spec - there's got to be some Ford Techs on here who know the accurate exact number!

in 2000 the Ford Manual states 13 lb/ft. Another search showed up 10lb/ft for a 2003 E series with the v10. I would say if you're between 10-13lbs you should be fine.

My 01 mustang Cobra drain plug torque spec, is 14 foot pounds.
I use the same for my 6.8 V10.
Yes there is a gasket, white plastic , for the drain plug.
I have not had to replace it since I bought my truck 2 years ago.
I have 40.000 miles on it since purchase, and change the oil every 4k miles or so.
All of my miles are on the hiway and are at minimum an hour and a half each way.
