2001 F450 A/C recharge

I think the truck needs a recharge, it's not blowing any cold air. The question is - which port do I use? There's one on the top of the accumulator and another in the line just off the passenger side of the radiator, near the coolant tank.
My only recharge experience was after I replaced a leaking accumulator in my 2007 Crown Vic police interceptor, and this obviously doesn't look quite the same.

You should have an R134 system so the charging tool will only fit on the low side. High and low should be different sizes.

I only popped the caps off and took a quick look. That they would be different sizes never occurred to me. Thanks for the heads up.
I've got the gauge and hose that goes onto the refrigerant can, I'll have to match it up to the correct port on the truck.

The low side is the large port on the accumulator, closest to the firewall, remember 134a runs higher pressure than r-22. on an average day 60-70's you want 45-50 on the low 250 on the high, dont panick if the high is up there when your driving the air rushing thru the condensor will drop the pressure.

Thank you. I'll try the recharge today, but of course now the area is in for a few days of high temps in the 50's!

Wait for it to warm up, your charge will be more accurate. Usually, a high side pressure about 2.2 times the ambient temperature in °F will put you right in the ballpark.

That they would be different sizes never occurred to me.
If they weren't, that metal can would turn into a hand grenade when pressurized to over 200 psi if connected to the high side.

More good information. Idiot proof (relatively speaking) is always good.
