DON'T BUY A TRUCK WITH A SUNROOF

Ok, I got talked into it by the queen. I told her it wasn't practical and they break, leak, etc. I got used to it but might have opened it a couple of times.
Now its making a popping sound. "That didn't sound good" Well today it happened. Went to the gym, feeling warm and fuzzy, had the windows down, sunroof open, got there and buttoned everything up to go inside, this is Memphis, Tn and not that there's alot of stealing going on, "thunk!" The sunroof is stuck open. I tried retracting and closing again. The drivers side tries to move forward but the passenger side is binding some place. Took the truck to the dealer and I was quickly told there are no adjustments and the track is usually replaced with all the other stuff. 2K! That's just great. Oh, I hit the switch at the dealer and it closed. Is this a common problem with the sunroofs? I'm just wondering.
When the wife gets home I'll have her look up in the track to see what she can find, I'll check the switch again

If its closed, I'd remove a fuse or cut and cap the power wire leading to it. No more problems.

You may have a proximity detector that functions when you are at the dealer, but not the rest of the time.
There are a lot of us in that boat.

sunroof issues

Got bad news for you this is an issue that a lot of sunroofs have not just ford. I have had mine adjusted at a minimum of 3 times last year and at lease two times every year I have had it. even in my wife's car it does it. on average every 300 open and closings of a sunroof will need adjusting and at lease every two years the seal has to be replaced. I dont even open mine anymore I have thought about bringing it to a body shop and having it removed and sealed up.

Dont open that sunroof, yes lots of problems because the cables and drives are all plastic and the motor is a worm drive setup and the entire headliner has to be removed to work on it, when a new guy got hired at the dealer his job was the squeek, reek and leak, and 90% of the 3 were from sunroofs. Leaking and then you would have the wet carpet or back seat stink, and rattles from the sunroof not in the track right or the plastic rails would break. I will never buy anything with a sun/moon roof. Good luck, I would leave that closed and unplug the switch so you dont forget or lend someone the car and they open it.

I have had sunroofs in 5 of my cars/trucks including my current truck. Only one of them had an issue.

Like anything else they need maintenence. It needs a light coat of lube twice a year or so. And to clean the crud out of the corners where allot of cars now have drains for the sunroof stuff get stuck in them.

My 99 ZX2 has a moonroof that has been flawless. Though I don't mess with it a whole lot, its an under 1k mile per year car at this point. My superduty was ordered because I did NOT want the sunroof included in the Lariat ultimate package, but still wanted a Lariat. The cab lights make enough holes in the roof, and I didn't want 1 more.

Sunroofs are for Rangers

and F150s and maybe Durangos, Voyagers and Cheyennes. But not trucks.

Have you ever driven out in the field st night, with the ability to look up at the night sky? It's nice to me.

I would not want it on a super duty myself.

Our Lincoln has it with the vista roof and it is nice there but that is a whole different type of vehicle.

Yep. Wife by my side, air mattress in the bed, and a few beers between us.

I would always get the sun roof option.

The aftermarket one in my mustang has been there since it was new and has never leaked. I replaced a motor in it but it has been flawless.

Telling people not to get the sunroof because of motor and seals is line telling somebody to boot get Windows in their vehicle.

I had the same issue with my sunroof...but I still like having it. I have also had sunroofs on 2 Expeditions and have had 2 convertible Mustangs. Loved them all.

Gotta have all the options. That way I got something to complain about when it breaks. I am a truck driver through and through and its my god given right to whine. The saying goes everyone's gotta be good at something. I just found out what that was at an early age.
