So I noticed the left front speaker is starting to go on the fritz for me. Some googling shows this to be a fairly known issue that could be either the door jam wires, the speaker connector or the actual audio head unit itself. I need to rule out the wiring issues still, but this would also be a great excuse to install the Alpine deck from my old truck to replace the non-sync OEM unit.
Has anybody done this? Looks like Metra 95-5820 is the proper mounting kit including paint matched to factory trim. Any idea if they sell a wiring kit so I don't need to cut/splice (I can, just don't want to)? How about antenna?
What steps are involved/how do you R&R the head unit?
What did you end up doing? My wife's 2011 Ecoboost has had the drivers speaker go in and out since new. Now it seems the passenger side is starting it. I've pulled the radio out and checked connections, no change. I think its in the head unit, because you can turn the volume up and back down and it will come back.
I was thinking about finding a better factory radio out of a wrecked F150 but not sure it will work either. Hers has SYNC but no big screen.

Yes, definitely get a wiring harness for your vehicle. Don't do the cut and splice like the good old days. Being that yours is a non-Sync unit you don't have to worry about attempting to keep Sync.
my 2012 has done the same since i bought it. I am curious to hear if anyone else has figured it out.
Hi lsukevinc,
I responded to another one of your posts but wanted to touch base with you here, too. How many miles are on your truck? Have you ever mentioned the radio issues to your local Ford Dealership?

I can't speak for Isukevinc, but my wife's has around 110K on it. This issue has been ongoing since new. We took hers back to the same incompetent dealership 3 times here in our small town and each time they told us they couldn't find anything. I wish I would have taken it elsewhere....

Hi lugnut1009,
If you'd like to find an alternate dealership to work with, enter your ZIP code here: Ford Dealers | Locate a Ford Dealer Near You | Ford.com Additionally, I'll be happy to document feedback about the dealer you've been working with, just send your info over in a PM. I'll need your full name, best daytime phone number, dealer details, and any specifics you'd like me to include.
On my 2008 we replaced the speakers & the wires. The problem was better but still existed. They ended up replacing the head unit, which fixed the problem. Many miles later I put new speakers in the doors & a navigation head unit in the dash. It was an easy job, just time consuming. I did buy all the required adaptors and plugs. They were well worth the money.
