F450 OBDII port is dead
Hi guys I'm new around here. Always been a Ford guy.
I did a few forum searches and can't find my solution so here's one for the vast braintrust here. Google is NOT my friend in this instance.
I found this truck on Craigslist. 1999 F450 6 speed with a pto on the tranny and a dumping flatbed. Damn cheap but it needed a new engine. 7.3 powerstroke. So I've been working on this truck for a month now. Put in a low mile used 7.3 and got it running now. The plan is to flip it and use the profit to buy some high flowing heads and solid roller cam for the 504 FE I'm building for my 1972 Highboy.
The only thing I have left to fix is the ABS light is on. I figure one of the wheel sensors is bad. I've dealt with this issue before. To find out what ABS codes are present I plugged in my OBDII scanner. It won't power up. I thought maybe it was dead so I plugged it in to my truck and it works great. Dug out my owners manual to my truck (it's a 1999 F250 7.3) I didn't get the owners manual to the F450. I see fuse #3 is a 20A fuse that powers the OBDII port and the cig lighter. Checked the cig lighter and yep it's dead too. I pulled the cover off the in cab fuse box and it does NOT have a #3 fuse. The slot is empty, nothing for a fuse to plug into. So obviously the fuse schedule is different from the F250 to the F450. After several hours researching the web, I'm stumped. Where does the OBDII port and the cig lighter get power from in a 1999 F450? I've checked every fuse and they are all good. No slots are empty.

Had the same problem a while back. My OBDII Bluetooth transmitter stopped working and I thought it died. Checked the fuse and it was blown. Replaced it and all was good. I've had a few fuses go out for no reason. Many of my fuses are 12 years old so I have chalked it up to age if there's no apparent reason. Your owner's manual will have a list of the fuses. If you don't have one you can Google it and you should be able to find a .pdf version you can download for free.

Sound like someone changed your fusebox. This is what happened to me on my 2001 F550. some wiring was burnt up and someone changed the fusebox on me and somethings didn't work. call the dealer parts guy and give them your VIN number and see what fusebox comes back. Then look at the numbers on yours. I'll bet you have the wrong one. after i got the correct one everthing works on mine.
