89 F150 5.0 NO POWER
I have an 89 F150 5.0 that I am trying to haul a 2875# single axle travel trailer with. I was told by numerous mechanics and friends that it should be no problem and hardly noticeable...Well WRONG!!!! It not only notices but feels like I have an anchor behind me. What is happening i the vehicle has no UMPH!! AT ALL! Ran codes and got KOEO=11 and KOER=44. Could an O2 or faulty Cat convert cause this? I bought the truck off of an old farmers wife whose husband passes. It has 125000 miles on it.Just changed plugs wires and new timing chain and water pump since the chain jumped. It runs ok most of the time smooth but lacks power sometimes she runs rough but few and far between. I have a 4 speed manual trans in it.
Thanks everyone. Love the truck but need it to pull this camper.

Yeah the 5.0 truck motor of that vintage is a gutless wonder but it could also be saddled with totally inappropriate(for a truck) axle gearing. Find the axle code on the drivers door pillar and post it up. Also check base timing and fuel pressure to see if they are at spec, and consider doing a cam swap and exhaust system.

So basically, what he has is a truck built in late 88 but was stamped as a 89. I've had this happen with a couple of cars I've owned. Matter of fact just traded in an 04 Cadillac CTS with a 3.2L 5speed manual. 04 was suppose to be all 3.6L. I guess they let about 2% of 03 cars go through as 04.
Anyway, If you're lacking power, go back, pull the spout and recheck your timing, you may need to advance it a few degrees. Check your fuel pump pressure. When was the last time the fuel filter on the frame was changed?
