Question 69 F100 Transmission options

Hey all,

It's been awhile since I've posted. Had to put my project on the back burner for a bit but now I'm able to start getting back into it.

I'm working on getting the engine rebuilt. Had bad compression from exhaust valves and seats being worn and bent.

Going to build a street/strip truck and I am wondering what a good manual transmission would be for it. I am having a hard time finding anything since not many people build these trucks for racing. Right now it has the stock T18 trans which is not going to do what I want with final drive only being 1:1.

Need suggestions! Thanks

Walt

Walt, Ya recond folk on here might be able to offer an answer or two if you would not make us wonder what engine you might be planning to rebuild?

Come on bra, give us a little hint.

All non-overdriven transmissions will be 1:1 in high gear. If you're going to be running the drag strip, you won't need an overdriven transmission.

Ah well its going to also be a street truck too so it will get highway time. I wanna drive it down to do the power tour in a couple years when it's together. But I wanna get good acceleration and good top speed.

Unfortunately for an FE engine, there aren't any modern Ford overdrive transmissions (built in the last 25 years) that are a direct bolt-up to an FE.

You will have to spend some money on an adapter and/or on a transmission to couple the two together.
