Good catch. I didn't see the metal blocking plate - if that's what it is. If so, we don't have to worry about the EGR. But, to prove that I would put full manifold vacuum to the EGR valve and see if the engine dies. If it doesn't either the valve is bad or is blocked. In either case I'd leave it alone for now.

Gary, apparently I have over-repped you and am not allowed to do so at this time. Someone please rep Gary for me for, once again, stepping in and helping out.
Also check this, on my truck this is a manifold vacuum port that elbows to and feed the brake booster, the vac block that is mounted on the upper firewall that feeds the temp control panel and the vacuum modulator on my transmission
Willey - You've certainly over-repped me. But it is the thought that counts.
Crikey, Gary, if you ran for mayor or dog catcher, I'd drive to Oklahoma and knock on doors for you.
A few years ago, when I had my '01 soul-sucking money-draining Ranger, I posted some simple question on the Ranger forum. Can't even remember what it was. No one ever replied, even to just say, "You're an idiot."

Heck when I opened the thread, I thought I was looking at pics of my truck when I got it, I just rattled off 15 months of trouble shooting tips, from memory (bad memories)
This is junk, disconnect your hose unscrew this entire assembly and throw it away, go to home depot, or parts store and find you a nice brass fitting and a nipple and install

Do you have a pic of yours to show him what you mean?

None of its needed? Whats up with all the vacuum crap? I will be honest, i live in a fairly cool climate. (I know its thermostat related). However I plan on taking the pickup out camping in areas that get quite warm in the summer.
All of that "vacuum crap" was used to determine when various things got vacuum - based on coolant temp. Don't know about that setup, but some didn't get vacuum advance until the temp got to a certain point. Others got manifold vacuum to the vacuum advance if the temp got too high. And that probably figures into the timing for the EGR valve - which you aren't using. So, as was said, that stuff isn't needed, regardless of where you drive. You are going to have to go back to a very simple setup - pre emissions. However, you don't have to remove the pieces. You can leave them there.
Okay, I will concentrate on cleaning up whats left and will get back on here ASAP. I know Ford did something right for this thing to still run after 30 years.
Passenger fenderwell. What are these?
Driver side fenderwell. Slaughtered, not used?
Also found this way down on passenger side fenderwell. I will trace it after work. Gonna be a fun project this vehicle... haha

Reason: Pictures
first and second pic, obviously not needed, however, check to see if there is any vacuum on any of it while running (ill bet not) if so trace it back and plug it at the source and remove. On the 3rd pic, that is a return/vapor line (I believe that's the name) its pointed to/near two square charcoal (fuel vapor storage) canisters, many can argue the benefits, me I just plugged it
