We are trying to find and verify the VIN # on a 1966 Ford Ranchero that we might purchase from a private party who is asking $5000.00 for. The condition is questionable showing on a scale of 1 to 10: exterior body - 7, interior - 5, engine and engine compartment - 4, wiring - ?, transmission - ?. Visual inspection shows medium body rot under driver side floor, some questionable after market replacement parts (that are supposedly stock), both doors have different color upholstery than the bench seat, odometer reads 43,*** miles, interior for most black, exterior paint off white.
The drivers side door stamp reads as follows:
BODY: 66B
COLOR: Z
TRIM: 66
DATE: 29L
DSO: 72
AXLE: 4
TRANS: 3
WARRANTY #: 4R27F123465 (this number is stamped on the fenders and radiator support.)

Can anyone please help with identifying this ford and would greatly appreciate feed back on the asking price is it worth it or should we dig deeper, or offer lower?

4 = 1964

1964/65's look pretty much the same. 1964 has a different grille, side mouldings, tail lamps than 1965. 1964 has a generator, 1965 has an alternator.

1966 is completely different!
