So I've been looking into boxing in the frame on my 78, has anyone done this before on a regular cab? Is it worth it? and how exactly should I do it, work around the brackets? pictures would be helpfull
Why not? I've got the whole truck torn down to the frame, the frame has been sandblasted and I figured if I boxed in the frame rails it would make the truck more rigid. Isnt the suspension supposed to be the only part of the truck flexing anyway?
Not really, no...sometimes when you reinforce one area it will cause higher stresses in another which can actually hurt the strength of your frame. I wouldn't bother unless you were trying to beef up a damaged or rusted area of the frame. Some flex in the frame is a good thing as well.
If you're asking these types of questions then it sounds like you dont really have a need to do it. Do you have the welding and fab skills to do it? Just throwing out some ideas.
It sounds like boxing the frame really isn't nessesary. It didn't occur to me that reinforcing could put stress in other places. Im just going to leave it alone. Thanks for the advice.
