2nd try widening rear fenders

Here's my second attempt, tried making my cut as close to mounting flange as possible. There's still a Lot of taper in these fenders. It's better than the first one, but not as good as I would like. I have another set of rears, any new ideas?? Besides buying fiberglass...

There was a episode on Trucks TV that widened a set of fenders on an F100 ,maybe check it out. Wish I had some fenders.

Edited.... I thought you were talking about how the fender tapers in towards the rear.

Without access to the hammers and english wheel to help form the compounding curve especially where the horizontal meets the vertical is very time consuming. Has to be done by hand forming. The vertical pc is a little to far into the curve ( the corner). You can see right where the pc you added starts going away from the original fender, cut the new pc right there and than form a pc a little wider there to the compounding curves. Fit, trim and form, fit trim and form etc until you have it to your like. Weld Polish than filler and shape the filler than finish. My inner wheel well widening, very similar to your project but not as big, took me about 30 hrs per side and I am light on that figure.

That's the reason I opted for a wider bed and wheel tubs.

I can provide some guidance later on, sorry I'm busy today and tomorrow. There is no "quick and dirty" way, it is nearly impossible to do it and come out right with just a narrow strip. Be prepared, it is going to involve a lot of careful work.

If you have spare fenders........why not cut a strip from them?

If I could have found a set, I was going to go that route. You would still have to cut and spread them in some places, but the taper and curves are already there.

I have laid paper flat on the fenders and then scribed the area to be widened on the paper. Cut paper to match line. It will produce a curved pattern when transferred to sheet metal. Hard to explain but a easy process. Then the welding and hammer work starts.

That was my intent for benefit of others that are playing along at home Gonna take some time so has to wait until Fri. Got a date tomorrow with a girl I used to date in HS 50 years ago! Just caught up with each other a few months back. First first date in ~ 35 years, hope I still remember how.

AX Its just like our old trucks. They may not look as good as they once did but if all the parts are there and with a little care you're back in the drivers seat.
