So, I have a 1970 f100 stock 4 speed with a 351w bolted on to it and when I take off and I don't give it enough gas vs letting off clutch, the shifter literally almost slaps me right on my leg, and the passenger, I looked under there and everything. Looks good, when it does this it doesn't come out of gear or anything it's just annoying and plus I really don't want to tear anything up, any ideas what this could be?
Look and feel for broken or loose engine/trans mount.
You may need a jack and block of wood simulate the application or removal of engine torgue.
2X Hio. If the shifter does this still straight up but moving side to side look for a broken tranny mount. If the shifter is twisting back and forth clockwise and counter-clockwise look for one or both engine mounts to be broken. Note, "at rest" a mount may look OK. The two halves might have sat back down on each other correctly.
Shorty, you have a dangerous situation. Last year a fellow came in with a picture of an engine into the radiator. You should immediately replace all three mounts. One at a time. They are cheap.
There is a Toothless Jake way of checking for a mad motor mount: nose it into the biggest tree you can find and gently let the clutch in. Let wifey watch to see if the motor rolls up.
Pulling up the e-brake and loading also works.
Do not let wifey work the clutch. Otherwise, flattened tree, crushed grill.
