The weather here this past weekend was beautiful so I decided to get off my lazy butt and pull the engine and tranny out of my 94' F150.
I think I may have voided the warranty when I hacked the core support.

I'm not sure if I'm going to put this engine in the truck but I am leaning toward using the M5OD.

I washed down the tranny and got the big chunks off the engine.

It looks clean......

....and the gears are in great shape....she's going in the truck.

The juice clutch looks like it would be simple to mount.

The only thing I need is a tail housing that's bored for a cable speedo. I think I need one from '92 or earlier F-150. The tail shaft already has a spot for the speedo drive gear to sit.

I took some measurements from the center line of the drive shaft to the top of the trans case and it should fit in the tunnel!

Anybody need a slightly modified Hurst shifter and 3 speed tranny?

Great progress Gavin, the trans looks good from here,
if you cant find an extension you can drill & bore that one out for the speedo

Hi Gerry, I wish I could but it would be a crap shoot.

Thank you sir, but it's not nearly as awesome as an F100 with IFS, IRS and a twin tubro 4BT.

You could always mount a GPS and that would tell you speed (and location).

Nice tranny! I'm going with the juice clutch also. I'll be curious to see how you work out the speedo issue, I'll be dealing with the same eventually.

On the Mazda R2 extension housing
E8TZ7A039C. This stretches back to 1988. Pickup,Econolines, and full size Broncos. Discontinued. It had a $304.xx list price. Kinsel L/M has it so I called Lynda there. They only sell to dealers like me out of state. Including your local dealer. She wanted $202.00 plus freight to me. I wanted to buy it for you Gavin as a return favor but I have to admit I can't handle that
E8TZ17285C....8 tooth speedo drive gear. Discontinued.
E8TZ17285B....7 tooth speedo drive gear. Discontinued.

.Let me know which one I should locate. back on the housing, besides Kinsel L/M there is

Good idea, but I have a gauge cluster from an F600 I'm dying to get hooked up.

You'll prolly have your truck back together before I do.

No worries bro, you don't need to do that. I'm just happy you answer my nOOb questions. Thanks for looking this up and making the call for me! I'm not in a hurry to get this done so I'll prolly do a little JY exploration. The years I'm looking for are '88-'92?

The tail housing in my 92 M5OD is just like the one from your 94. I know 92 - 96 all used the same speed sensor.
Your doing the same thing I'm hoping to get done before winter, I'd like to get the motor out of my 93 4x4 and my 65 Mustang in the shop before bad weather sets in. I don't think I told you about that one I had a 65 Mustang find its way to my barn.

I got a '92 5psd for my '89. No speedo. No problemo. I bought a speedo gear, pulled the trans down(needed shift forks anyway), milled a spot in the main shaft for a clip pin and then put it all back together with the speedo gear on it. I then machined the tailhousing for a cable. The shaft has a spot for the speedo gear, but nothing to hold it or drive it(pin). I can get some pics of my stuff as it is still in the garage.

I waiting on my crossmember(from a member here) to complete my conversion. I hung the pedals a month go, just needed to find the correct crossmember and stick it all in.

Your shift forks look good. You will find that if you drive with your hand resting on the shifter, it will grind the fork down to paperthin and then POP no more shifting. This was my first climb into a Mazda 5spd. Not that hard to do, just a little different from my old toploaders.

My Ford computer says Bronco up to 1996 and F-series up to 1998. But I don't believe it.

Jeff, I'm guessing the electronic speedo started in '92? So any previous years would have the correct tailhousing.

I'd say you'll have to have MUCH better luck then me as there is NO, Nadda, Nothing left of those year trucks around here, especially to have a stick in it. Hens teeth here in the great rust belt. Might have much better luck in your neck of the woods.
