Hey guys, I have a question about oil pressure although it does not regard my truck. It's my best friends 93' Blazer with a 350 in it. I know its a chebby, but me and him look after both of our vehicles. I was riding with him the other day and noticed that his oil pressure was running at about 25 psi (according to the guage) between 10-15 at idle and 25 psi under heavy acceleration. I believe this is awfully low. Should the pressure be higher? Any information would be appreciated and my friend will appreciate it more.
Jr,how many miles on the 350?How many miles on the current oil change?I use to rebuild small block chevys as a hobby, and for side money.Ive built them with hi volume pumps and without. Its possible the filter is clogged. Its also possible the mains are going. Its also possible the oil pump has too much play in the gears. The pickup could be partially clogged too.Unless I know the answer to the 1st two questions I asked, I can only guess. My personal SBCs I built for myself,I always installed a Melling HV oil pump, which gave me 65-70 psi at start up and a constant 70-80 at hiway speeds with 40plus at idle. And thats using dino 10W30 oil.A good rule of thumb is to have at least 10 psi per 1000rpm,on a stock motor. It sounds as if its a stock motor which might just be normal for its set up.
Just heard from him. 120000 miles on the motor. 500 miles since last oil change. Oil gets changed regularly every 3000. I am asking since my dad had the same year model 350 in his pickup truck and the pressure was about 35 at idle and 50 under heavy acceleration. The motor is stock, the exception being the exhaust system.
