any of you live in NY? wondering how you pass inspection

I have a 2013 f350, last year I got a saftey inspection. Now I got told I need a diesel and saftey inspection. Problem is I have it deleted. It's registered as passenger since I use it to pull my 35' camper. I think I might be in a pickle

If NY is the same as MA, yep, it's a no go to pass inspection if you're deleted. They do a physical check to see if all equipment is in place and if not, fail. Guys here have to actually put all the emissions equipment back on each year to pass inspection. One reason I won't do it. I can deal with the warranty void. I can't be bothered installing and uninstalling things every year.

I hear ya. At that point I wouldn't bother either. But I pulled the trigger and went in for an inspection at another location. They pulled it up on the computer and all that came up was a saftey inspection(seat belts, brakes, etc) no plug in to the OBDII or anything... the other guys were full of *****!!! $15 for the saftey and I was on my way

That's the reason I tell guys that just because where they live doesn't do emmissions inspections now, doesn't guarantee that they won't be doing them tomorrow.

With the cost of deleting and put on put off plus the very little gain in mpg I never deleted.
If we didn't have emissions testing here in NH I might of done it.

Yeah I hear how some states are very uptight about diesel trucks... it's crazy.. I know ny just made the diesel emissions law in 2012. I was informed that certain trucks within a certain weight class like ours are exempt being their certified clean diesel.

Exactly you never know what they're up to when it comes to diesel anything. Sometimes I wish I got a gas job so I wouldn't be so tempted lol

NY doesn't have a requirement to inspect an OBD ll diesel emissions systems over 8501 pounds GVW. The cost is $10 (VS-77 is the chart).

See CR79, Page 61, cr79.pdf | New York State DMV for any inspection requirements for a 'light duty' pickup

If you live in the NY City area - then you will need at least an exhaust opacity test or more which gets kinda steep ($25+$10 if I read the chart right)

Nah... it's 8501 or greater... when they scanned my truck it automatically came up for a certain weight class and all it said for it is saftey

If he is in the NY City Metropolitan Area (NYMA) which he appears to be - then he is subject to an entirely different bag of worms and if he is registered as a passenger vehicle - which seems to infer that he will need a full emissions as well as safety inspection. He has to read the link I've posted above.

I re-registered my truck in NY this year and only got a safety inspection, took 5 minutes and $15. I haven't heard of anyone getting an emissions inspection in NY as I believe it's not required for these trucks. Unfortunately, the fear that it will be eventually is one reason why I haven't deleted, I think it's only a matter of time...

Yeah I went through the same thing. And if it starts to be a problem, I'll put that dpf back in cause it wouldn't be worth it!

Emission testing requirements up here are just another cash grab. May as well call it "Bi-Annual Tax Contribution by Older Vehicles". Requires no CEL and then a scan for readyness on all the emission items. Used to be a sniffer test but they were taking too long to collect the 35$.
