I need some mind bleach to get that thought out of my head!
Not joking at all. I'm talking about exactly the same thing you mention. They've been known to take food from kind folks and throw it directly in the trash (or on the ground) as well.
I don't know if you're joking or not but last year while waiting for my wife while she was shopping this young guy (30ish) gets out of a newer pick up changes his cloth to ratty, dirty things gets a puppy from the truck, cardboard sign and walks over to a corner to panhandle. I guess it's just another day at the office.

I once had the pleasure of getting stuck in Boston near Govt Center for a few hours. Sitting on a bench I heard the panhandlers having quite the conversation one with another, about how much money they were taking in near the Aquarium. It is absolutely true how many people do this for a living, but own homes and cars. It seems I always see a guy and a dog, or a woman and child...and of course the cardboard sign.
I've given in the past - typically food, because often cash just buys booze or drugs for a truly homeless person...but sometimes I drive away feeling duped.
I don't mind helping the homeless or those down on their luck, but unfortunately there is really no way to tell a professional panhandler from someone who actually needs help.

I know this is going to sound a bit strange, but does anyone need a new toilet for their rig? I just ordered a new Thetford Aria Classic for our master bath. I will be removing a very slightly used Dometic 310 Ceramic Bone toilet. Literally two weeks of camping on it. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I just have different tastes in toilets.
