Mostly Oracle, some Exadata. But I've done MS SQL Server as well as Sybase. I'm a w****, I'll make it work with whatever the client has.

A lot of us Geeks around here I guess. My current job is a combination of Management/Technical in the traditional Mainframe operating system space for a Midwest regional bank. I still have my share of on call, and pulling all nighters for hardware/software upgrades.

I try to get up and walk around the office a couple times every hour, and take part of my lunch hour going for a walk outdoors when the weather permits.

IT here too. I'm a software consultant specializing in web applications built on Microsoft products with a MS SQL backend. But, like HRTKD, I will work with whatever the client has. I've done some Oracle and Sybase as well, but I much prefer MS SQL. I've also got a small software consulting business on the side that I work with a few small clients on my own.

I recently purchased a sit/stand desk. It definitely helps getting a little better blood flow and breaks up some of the monotony of sitting too.

IT for me as well. I don't deal with clients - I just manage the IT group at my company. Much better that way. We deal with a network, ERP, CRM, SQL databases and associated reporting, all the user workstations, the servers, Exchange, remote clients / VPNs, our PBX phone system, and all associated peripherals. I'm far less fascinated by computers now than I used to be...lol. But my fascination for automobiles continues unabated...

That's the easy part Roy. The shoveling and snowblowing will beat you up and I have a lot of both. If only it was all as easy as the driveway with the plow...

I built and managed a Novell network some time ago. I gave up the network admin side jobs after Netware 3.2. Netware was pretty cool. We ran a database server inside Netware because it's what we had. Now, we use VMWare to split server software into separate operating systems. I really like VMWare. As a consultant it's handy to have multiple versions of vendor software ready to go, as well as a blank O/S ready to be installed into. You just never know what version a client is going to be running.

I have a much older version of this Honda snowblower.

The new version drives like a bulldozer. The handles engage/disengage each track separately. That makes it soooo much easier to use. We haven't had enough snow this year to break out the snowblower more than once. Kind of hard to convince the wife that I need a new snowblower when I hardly use the one I have. Mine is a beast. From the sidewalk I can put snow on the second story roof if the snow is just right.

NW3.2 was Great !!!

Starting with NW4.1, eDirectory was 3 dimensional......Fantastic !!
MS Active Directory can't even come close.........

Anyway.......Once Netware went away, it was no longer fun.

Just a note to any of the guys who frequent my thread but don't read all the others in the 6.7 section. Our FTE get together is happening in Maine this year and there are a few RV sites and cabins still being held that are about to be released if we don't book. Here is the thread with all the details. Anyone who is interested, book it... The more the merrier! Tom, Tyler, Jim, Carl? Anybody?
