Rodney I am pretty sure they just recently made it so DRW can get regular plates if its not used commercially.

No sales tax? Nice! We'll pay almost $2k sales tax on our new RV coming in. My truck was over $3k. Bastads!

Happy new year guys.
Michigan trailer plates are permanent, classified by weight empty. Under 1,000 is $75, over 10k is $325ish, with a couple levels in between. Truck is $250ish.

I actually don't mind the idea of having an inspection required on trailers. The issue I have is that none of the inspection stations are really well equipped to handle trailer traffic. Many of them are barely large enough for a long wheel base truck. The other issue I have with the inspection, is that my yard has been so soft the last several months, that getting a trailer out without destroying the yard is virtually impossible. I have to get the inspection completed before I can renew my registration. I've waited about 6 weeks so far to be able to pull our big G/N horse trailer out for a trip to the inspection place, and have until the end of January to do so, but it's not looking promising so far.

I can't say I'm against it either Doug. Just another hassle though. Keeps junk off the road..........sort of. I get the camper done yearly, mostly because it's free where I bought it and they have tons of room. The dump trailer hasn't ever been inspected.........since new. LOL. Guy I bought it from didn't know it needed it. I just haven't bothered in the 4 years I've owned it. PA does not require the inspection to renew the registration though.

State Senator Ryan Fattman has been trying for years to pass legislation to change that. It's always failed. I haven't seen where it's passed recently. If you have a bill #, I'd love to see it as I had been in contact with many state reps for years to get this addressed without success.

Wow, I'm shocked they got it through! Thanks for posting it. There is a long running thread on this in the MA section of FTE. I wish I had a bill number to post for folks to see but this is a start. This went cold in the state congress for about a decade as it costs the state money. It always got sponsored and had good support but Ways and Means never took it up as they didn't want to loose funding. DRW's were always registered by GVWR so they are loosing good coin on those registered with passenger plates.

It has been mentioned in that thread and people have been getting regular plates for their DRW trucks.

Mornin' Doug... What's crackin'? Got a small project this morning helping out my uncle who happens to live near the local JD store. Going to stop in and do some looking around. Before that we have our realtor coming over to get the house on the market. I guess if it sells, I really don't need a mower right away...

I'm making perfume on days this week through Thursday.

Have fun shopping, and good luck with the realtor!

So, JD was fun. The 1 seemed like a baby. Nicely appointed and comfy but small. The little 2 (2025R) was a bit nicer fit. Great ground clearance for trail work. But, with the same basic capacities as the 1, it seemed like it would fall short of any big work. We also looked at the 3. It can still have a MMM and turf tires but would also be able to handle a lot more work. It can also come with up to a 46HP motor. So, bottom line is we left with more questions than answers. I think the safer bet is to wait to see if this house sells. If we stay here, we'll likely stay with a X739 or zturn. If we do head to the hills as planned, we may go to something larger than can mow as well as work the land a bit...
