Why tape over the bed bolts? Ford doesn't. My OEM bed liner is sprayed right over the bolts. I'm cool with that. If the bed has to come off for some reason, it will likely be the Ford dealer doing so it's not my problem.

I agree Jim. And if they get messed up coming off it's ok because they get thrown away anyways.

Yes, I'd prefer they spray over them as well.

I think for me it was the idea that if they need to come out at some point, I don’t want them bringing the liner with them. I can always easily hit the bolt heads with a bit of flat black paint or bed liner in a can.

I think they are different on the 2017+ Super Duties due to the boxed frame.

Actually it seems to only affect trucks with an aluminum bed. The F-150's had a full box frame since 2004, but the bed bolts only became single use in 2015 with the aluminum truck. For Super Duty's, it was 2017.

How are the aluminum beds holding up in the new SD trucks? Have not read about any trouble. GM made it seem like if you dropped your lunch box into the bed of your truck, it might fall through. Now that aluminum has been used for a few years, I have not read of any issues.

GM was doing their best to spread FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). You beat on it enough, a bed is going to show damage without regard to the type of material.

No problems with mine. Truck is used mostly to pull the camper and not for heavy work. Just watch what you load and I don't see any problems hauling heavy material. Steel beds are light gauge material anyway so if you drop something heavy at the right angle they will get some damage too.

No problems with mine either but I'm not dropping loads of crushed stone from 10 feet up like in the GM videos either. In fact, my bed has been primarily used for my 5ver hitch so far. However, as soon as this obnoxious Sept. heat wave quits, I'll be up at the land cutting and splitting wood. The dump trailer will take much of the load but I'll likely fill the bed too from time to time.

Hard to believe the new SD design is three model years old already.

My bed is holding up fine, and its been well used. Hauled cord wood and tractor implements weighing over 1000lbs. Hauled one-ton pallets of wood pellets. No worries. It is interesting, however, that the bed bolts between an aluminum F-150 and aluminum Super Duty are pretty different. Much larger on the SD...and torqued to almost 3x as much as the 150. I know Ford said they put more aluminum in the SD bed...

Lol...Just two plus the Raptor. I'm not trading this year...next year, I should be able to get a 2020 with an updated interior. I love my diesel but I am somewhat tempted to buy a 7.3L gas. I've had a couple 6.2's in the past and didn't mind them.
