Good luck Rodney. I doubt the battle will be any easier. Although, they did replace my rear outer wheels with no fuss, which surprised me. Of course a year and a half later the new ones did the same thing. I've decided that when my running boards get too ugly I will take them off, strip them and deliver them to the local LineX dealer. Of course my truck is 5 years old not 1.
Did they give you a reason why they wouldn't do it?
They didn't want to go over the plastic inserts as they felt it would leave air voids where they met the metal and cause failures. They also didn't want to remove the plastic inserts first as the thickness of the spray coating wouldn't allow them to seat back in. They also worried they would break taking them out and weren't' sure they could be bought separately. I saw a bunch of guys who had it done in the 17 section back then. I guess I just live in an area where dealers won't do anything other than standard fair.
While get that to an extent as far as warranty goes, it seems like a lame excuse. If I ever do it I will strip the plastic myself, knowing it may need a little modding on reinstall. Then again, I don't have the chrome package so I just have 2 plastic steps per side, and that would be a whole lot easier to deal with than the style you have.
The 6". I should have known better after my 2009 with the 6" boards. The way the plastic inserts set allows salt to be trapped underneath. That is why I went with the 5" ones on my 2012. The long single pad didn't leave the gaps that the 6" does with it's individual pads. For 2017, I wanted the extended boards so I made the mistake of going back to the 6" variety. Ah well.
I'm not going to hold my breath! LOL. The power steps have their own issues after a few years of ownership so I didn't go that route. It might have been better than the alternative though. If these don't get warrantied, maybe I'll do the AMP steps after the fact. What I'd really prefer is to get my existing steps Linex coated like Scott and I were talking about. Not only would it stop and cover the chrome peeling, I'm not a huge fan of chrome on running boards anyways and would like them covered for aesthetic reasons as well.
