I need help... what turbo do I have

I found out from diesel injection service in Fort Wayne that my turbo is not stock.

It is a garret and the allied signal serial number is ACL20149

The part number is 1825818C91

The other sticker says 818ACL20149

the turbo is good but I need to replace the compressor wheel as it is pretty chewed up.

you need to go to ford and get the updated inlet boot for it and get rid of the orange one.

I was told in a post earlier that the orange boot was recalled, surely that applied to the bumper to bumper warranty and not still replaceable for free. If so I wanna go get a replacement instead of buying one.

Lol^^^^ no.not recalled like safety recall..more tech service bulletin.
Don't buy the ford kit.buy a new upgradded inlet boot from riffraff for it.
They are cheap and good ins.

And that is a stock turbo.whoever told u anything else is not very smart on these.
Just get an upgraded wheel from riffraff also.

Just read this...right after posting my solution to the intake boot on my "dummy question" thread...its funny because I did exactly what you are suggesting here, only I hadn't read this yet...I saw the ford replacement for the orange and its cost, screw that.

I ordered the Riff Raff..gonna get the plenum boots as well soon..

*Sidenote..my wishlist on RiffRaff is starting to look like I need a second job.....to many goodies, you just got to put them on the wishlist.

That IS stock for these trucks. TP38 without a wastegate is exactly what was on the 7.3 Powerstroke in the OBS trucks. The 7.3 didn't get a wastegate until after March of '99 (99.5 model year).

No body in Fort Wayne knows anything about these trucks. I know from experience.

Thanks guys...I think some it is my own confusion from so much reading....

Everyone seems to talk gtp38....

our tp3801 is obviously stock....

Just information overload I guess

The guy I talked to in louisville @ garrett said my turbo was from back in 1990... So I guess IH/Ford either bought a bunch of left overs or just had them sitting on shelves for 7 years...

Same part number.

How hard do you think it is to get a trashed turbo (cost wise)? I want to take one apart to see how the rebuild process would go...watching videos is great but hands on works better for me..

Yeah, that's where the confusion comes in. The GTP38 was used on the 7.3 installed after March of 99 (in the Super Duty style trucks). E99 and the 94.5-97 trucks got the TP38. Let alone the fact that there was a 7.3 IDI turbo that used a completely different turbo arrangement as well. It IS a bit confusing. Thes guys know what they're talking about, though.
