ok so i have the antenna mounted behind the cab in the crossbeam of my stake body. with all of the 12' of antenna in the cab i can get a swr of 2/3 but not one. grounding the antenna or if I move the coaxal out of the way to where its going to be stored. ether under the headliner or down the side on the cab, or tucked around the roof I get the high ant light on . moving the ant out to the back of the truck is the same. I'm going to try to change the mount this week and see what happens. and add better coax

TUNABLE CB ANTENNAS
Shouldn't have to run a grounding wire if the coax is good. Coax can be bad in two ways: kink/pinch, bent in too tight a radius which has deformed the spacer or bad connections to the coupler(s). Any fraying at the ends and you should re-terminate the cable. Used to be you could get the connectors at Radio Shack but now that they are gone try your local radio shop or Digikey.

I'm gonna run to the truck stop wensday and get a new mount and coax. hopefully one that will fit through the hole for the wire. might need to desolder and resolder the connections. to do it. right not my mount is a magnetic mount that i've secured to the frame of the stake body with home made clamps
