Transmission repair troubles

'90 f250 4x4 7.3 IDI with e4od. Bought the truck with the transmission blown. Called around and a guy at a respected repair shop quoted me $900 if I brought it in and re-installed myself. That was 1 month ago. Week after the call, brought it in on Mon. morning and he told me "I'll start on it the end of the week". Next week he calls on a Wed. says will be done on either Sat. or the following Tues. He said he'd call me. No calls. I call on Wed. and was told he took the day off. Called on Thurs. and he starts talking about my ZF transmission. I had to tell him , no, I have the e4od for the diesel. He says it will be $1150 and it will be done on Sat. (today) call me at this # at 3:00. Call at 3:00, no answer. Call and call, no answer. Drive to the place (40 miles), closed nobody around. This guy was recommended to me by several people but I'm maybe getting a little ticked. I've never had any transmission work done before so I don't know how this goes. Am I jumping the gun here or am I right to feel that I am getting jerked around?

that's also an extremely low quote to reman an E40D.i don't believe they can be done properly (to at least meet '95 spec) for that (neither of your quotes that is.)
the several recommendations with the low quote, him forgetting which trans you have, the mis quote and the jerk around delay seems out of place.what type of vehicles do those who recommend this guy,own and are you sure they are recommending him on first hand experiences?
