Fuel tank, what's needed for EFI conversion
I'm planning on going with a rear tank on my 67. I've looked at maybe going with the 70 Mustang tank, but what I'm wondering is, what has to be done to the tank, or can that tank be used, to run an aftermarket fuel injection setup. Or, will I have to get a custom tank made?

Premature Injection !
Depends... First you need to decide what EFI system you want or need to run. That will dictate what mods, if any, is needed to the tank or which tank to use.
For example, there are returnless TBI systems like the MSD Atomic or Edelbrock E-street where the pumps are pulse-width modulated.
Then there are the return systems like Q-Jection and FAST 1.0/2.0. The MSD and Edelbrocks can also be configured with a return. Systems with a return loop are less prone to starvation and heat soak. A return can be as simple as a 3/8-inch tube brazed to the sender or a separate bung welded to the tank.
The aforementioned systems all use an external fuel pump.
Alternatively, there are internal fuel pumps but we can have that discussion once ya figure out what ya wanna or need to do.

Ford puts a special rubber, neoprene, etc cap over the end of the return line on the sender inside the tank. It has a slit in it that opens when fuel coming back in the tank. Closes to seal when no fuel pressure. I'm not sure if this is in case of "roll over" or fuel slosh. So you might consider something like that or maybe rolling the return line in side the tank.

This is a sending unit for a '70 model Mustang gas tank that is plumbed with a return line for an EFI setup. I bought it back around 2001. I want to say I got it through Mustangs Plus.
However, it wouldn't be too hard to modify a stock fuel sending unit to do the same thing, by soldering in a piece of tubing.
Other options would be to plumb the return line into the filler neck going to the tank or, get a tank with a drain plug. The return line could be plumbed in through the drain hole.

The tablet interface is awesome as is the programmable cooling fan settings. No need to spec temp switches... punch in the hi and lo numbers and go.
