why did ford screw some expy owners?

I got this directly from edmunds.com I think we all trust edmunds to provide accurate info.

2002 4.6L EXPY
HP: 232HP
Tourque: 291 ft-lbs

99 4.6L EXPY
HP: 240HP
Tourque: 293 ft-lbs

97,98, 00, and 01
HP: 215HP
Tourque: 290 ft-lbs.

why does the 99 expy get the 240 horses. and everyone else minus the 02's get the anemic 215 hp powerplant. its kinda sad when your v8 makes less power than some v6's

99's and later had a redisigned cylinder head & intake mainfold, which made more HP & torque. I think the 01 and 02 models had a different exhaust system to meet CA emissions. They went from a 2 cat. conv. system to a single cat. What really sucks is the 97-98 models cannot be retrofitted with the later year intake manifold, you would have to do the heads & all, and I don't know if they will bolt up without other issues.........

It's torque that makes the world go around in such a heavy vehicle. Unless the torque curve is biased towards higher RPM than the curve on the higher horsepower engines, you're not missing a thing.

Soooo correct. Most people look exclusively at HP numbers when they really should be looking at torque specs. All HP really does is help sustain the momentum torque creates at higher RPM's.

we were having the discussion on 4.6 HP in another thread and I was pretty sure mine was rated at 240/295 (a 99) But after reading the thread and seeing fords site that the new 4.6 was rated at 232/291 I figured I was wrong, because I didnt know of any changes to the engine... Wow, I was right......Hmmm nah my wife would never believe it
