I need to get creative to get my engine hoist to clear the bay so I can pull my 360 out. I'm thinking about getting an Engine Lift Plate so I can get the crane as close to the block as possible. Anyone try this with an FE? I've done it with small blocks but not an FE.
No I have not but I'd prolly pull the whole front dog house off. That way you can lift the engine just a little and pull it forward. Remember Hio's idea of 1/8" locator holes in the hood hinges etc so you can mount it all right back in the same spot afterwards. And Jackson did a good job in his thread showing where all the bolts are to be taken out. Don't forget to suspend the front of the tranny when you separate it and the engine. New clutch time?
Oh yeah. I bet it's the original still in there. I had to divorce the tranny from the bell because the second bolt from the bottom left was impossible to get a wrench on it. It's free but I set it back into the braces while I figure out the height problem. Tranny has a cinder block, a 4x4 and a 1x1 and it just barely puts upward pressure on the case. That will complicate taking off the front wheels to get some more height out of the situation but it has to come out too. Pretty sure all the 50W that is supposed to be in it is now on the outside and under the floor, so at least new seals. Might as well do all three U-joints as long as its all apart.

Check the carrier bearing also then. Pinion seal while you got the driveshaft off?
Engine lift plate on a 360 is no problem. Do yourself a favour and pull the whole front clip off. If you want I can post the picture of where the bolt locations are.
I removed the tranny bolts on the NP435 and hooked the cherry picker chains to the intake bolts and went nice and easy. Had to remove the hood. Someone stood by the windshield wipers and had to push the end away from the transmission with there legs (while the cherry picker was lifting) to unmount the engine from the transmission. Put a new clutch on the new 360 and dropped it in and married it to the NP435 the same way. Never pulling the trans. Pulling the hood was a must. Other than that, it was very smooth.
The motor about bent my HD engine stand in half, so I stripped it down to the short block. Cylinders look good. I'll get the rotating assembly out tonight and start mic'ing the holes to see what the next step is going to be. Also I could only get three of the four mounts to reach the bell mounts so I'll be modifying that thing while the block is out getting hot tanked. The whole lower part of the water jacket is filled with sludge. I texted my buddy Butch "The Eagle is unbolted" and the next day a bald eagle flew up my street about 12 foot off the ground. Another buddy, Quinn helped in the removal and tear down yesterday. Thanks guys! I'm trying to get this thing done quick because I have mulch to haul for the wife. It's pretty messy and I will be going through the tranny too.

It's a little late now for this but, I chained down my frame to springs so, I had not enough lifting height. As, I had this problem before back in the 70's when installing the 390.
So back in 06 at my Sons home his garage had max 8' for the boom end.
And since my truck is 4wd it did sit higher once the engine lifted off it's mounts.
I did take my come along if needed to pull it down more if needed.
This drive way had about 9% grade may be more, so no way to do it their.
