Talking Well I was wrong about my DP Tuner

Over the weekend I purchased another chip(I won't say the name to bash on them ) I had one exactly the same in my 97 and it worked awesome. It was a six position chip. So I bought one for my super duty thinking that the DP tuner wasn't as good. I put the new chip in and look for a test drive for about 30 minutes I hated it. Soon as I got home I put my DP tuner back in! The only thing I don't like about my DP tuner is that it only has three settings. And if you switch it too fast it cuts the engine out then turns back on. (I think it might have to do something with the HIDs Im running. But oh well. The DP proved to me to be the best chip for the superduty. It just has more throttle response, boosts quicker, more power overall. And more smokey

"And if you switch it too fast it cuts the engine out then turns back on".

You don't switch settings under power do you?

Daniel do you mean by settigs you only have 3 tunes? You can send it back in for more!

What tunes do you have?

I don't shift under a load and I don't get any hesitation when I shift between tunes. No problem at all with my DP, I love it..

More smoke =Bad. I barely get smoke in any of my DP tunes. You need to address that.

3. Stock. Economy. And extreme.

Not pushing the throttle at all. It will cause the engine to turn off and back on for a split second if I swifch it too fast

I would contact DP and talk to them about it. Before I contact them I would pull your pcm and make sure you're giving them the correct code/pcm family. That's not normal.

I read somewhere that the HID headlights can cause interference when you switch the chip because of the transformers on the headlights. But I've done it without the headlights on and it still does it. I'm not the original buyer of the chip but that would be nice if they had a lifetime warranty I'm not sure if they do?.

I am thinking there would be alot of black smoke in the extreme setting... The guy that had yoru truck before was conflicted with only a economy and extreme tune...

MHO is I would stay out of that extreme tune... Go on DP website and see if there are tunes that would work for your driving habits.. and then send your chip into be re-programmed..

I've seen several units do this.

The cure (when mine began doing it) is to remove the Chip, use contact cleaner on the PCM and Chip, dismantle the Six Position Switch (careful, there is a small spring and ball bearing) and clean that as well.

I usually get a year or so of uninhibited switching following that course of maintenance.

I just pulled my HIDs out when your flying Down the highway with the wifey and its that time to turn your headlights on and ur trucks DIES. ... Needless I'm still re packing the passenger with foam. Or even a normal start up at home then turning on the HL's would kill. The truck even changed the ballets a couple times I also put/tried a choke on the cable runnin to the chip to help with RFI ... Looked good while they lasted

My brother had an old 3 position ATS chip in his '99 (70hp, stock, 100hp). If he flipped it up power level wise, the truck would never cut out, but turning it down the motor would all but shut off and turn back on. He hated it, so he traded it out for a handheld programmer.

My DP chip and tunes make very little to no smoke at all. If I'm going up a grade and bog the motor, I'll get just a little black smoke, but as soon at the 38r kicks in (~1sec) it goes away.

My only DP issue is the touchy pedal in the 80 DD Econ tune. The stock tune is what I use when going over bumpy roads because the accelerator surge can be a bit much.
