Silicone is not thread sealer. It should continue to work. The problem is that it can stay in the threads and cause issues fastening the bolts or studs, which can lead to incorrect torque or stripped threads. Next time you're at the parts store, pick up a small tube of thread sealer. Permatex make some, and other brands do, too, I'm sure. The next time you have those bolts out or any others that need thread sealer, that's the stuff you use.
Got the thread sealer and see what you mean about it being the stuff to use. I've since gone back and changed the bolts in the heads and used thread sealant on them now.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention that I decided to replace the distributor cap and rotor....so when I'm finished I start it up and discover that it sounds different. I'm thinking PO didn't have the firing order quite right!!! Now that it's firing on all 8. I like the way it sounds. I've decided to leave the engine in it and see if I can get it to quit leaking. At least that's my goal for now!!!
