good offroad trans/t-case for 351w..please help
hello, i have been swapping a 351w into a cj7 and restoring it for the last year and have recently had some problems and i need to relocate my engine higher and farther back. I am running a jeep t-150 (three speed) and dana 20 t-case. this fits perfect into the small block ford bellhousing. recently people have told me that that was a bad mix so while i relocate the engine i am going to try to replace the transmission. Im thinking about getting a t18 or np435. I have an extra jeep dana 300 transfer case but it looks like for the dana 20 and 300 t cases i will need a 400 dollar adapter for a big ford tranny. Also would one of these new ford transmissions fit the small block ford bellhousing? Does anyone have suggestions. What transfer case did ford run with their t18/np435 on a four wheel drive vechicle.
If this is going to be as expensive as it seems im thinking about trading in my old parts at the junk yard for a tough tranny and t-case off a f-250/bronco. Could somebody please help me out. I know im going to have to buy a new clutch disk for the t18 but i have already spend a load of money on the jeep and i want something strong and reliable that can take a beating and will last on and off road.

I agree with FordPerf300! Also, since you are spending money...
Have your driveshafts converted to CV's. Since it's such a short wheelbase, the CV's will give more in the angle department. Give me an NP205 ANY DAY! Good luck with the project.... Talk to you guys later....

i hope the differential on my jeep and the output of the ford transfer case is on the same side. The front differential and transfer case are offset to the passenger side on my cj. Does anyone know what side that would be on?
A bronco dana 20 has the output for the front driveshaft on the wrong side (drivers) for my cj differential.
If the ford tcase wont work, im thinking about getting an adapter used or from advance adapters/novak to adapt the t-18 for my dana 300 jeep t case.
Yes, i am going to get cv driveshafts, at least for the rear. Im going to get them custom made by tom wood.

The T/case on the ford's offset to the Drivers side. You could do like a few around here i know They swap out the Jeeo Dana 30 front ends for The Reverse Cut D44 that is found in the Jeep wagonieers. You could use both front and rearend to get the double D44's upfront and in the rear which will handle the 351W power the the Stockers under your cj, The Axles are pretty much a bolt in swap. You can still use the same leaf springs ya have now. Plus that'll allow you to run the Ford NP205 case since both offsets are the same. You can usually pick up a parts Wagonieer for little of nothing.

I'm sure advance adaptors has a SBF to chevy 205 tcase adaptor, but they aren't cheap either. I'd say go with the wagoneer axles, you'll have beefier axles and you'll be able to use the ford np205 tcase and adaptor for the Np435 or T18 tranny. I second the CV's take a look at what high angle driveline can do for you, i'm sure they'll know exactly what you need.

im debating what to do,
1. get adapter for t-18(2wd version)and jeep dana 300 t/case (which i already have) and everything will line up.
*cost- 525 for adapter plus the cost of the transmission
2. get a t-18 with t-case already bolted up and swap in dana 44s(wagoneer)
*cost- transmission/ t/case and axles
now i can also sell what i already have
jeep dana 20 t/case, dana 300(if i dont use it), and t-150 trans
What do you guys think of this. i know it would be easiest to just buy an adapter for what i aleady have which is one of the best jeep t/cases ever made, but i can use a ford set up and wagoneer axles which might be a lot harder but cheaper
i could also go for the chevy t/case but i would be spending a lot of money
im thinking of also using a np435 with the adapter for the dana 300 which would give me the highest gear ratio yet for rock climbing. The dana 300 transfer case has a better gear ratio (2.62:1) than the np205 (1.98:1) so i think thats what im going to go with. Now i will probably go with whatevers cheapest t-18/np435 and then buy the adapter for it and the dana 300 from advance adapters.
Wow so many choices. Anyone have any comments on this.
