To Diesel or Not to Diesel that is the question?

Ok guys I need some help asap. See my Signature below well today something fell into my lap kinda? A 2000 Ex diesel with 130000 been sitting for about a year came into my shop to get ready for the retail lot. It's dirty a few dents I think my PDR guy can get out and the step rails are soft. There is rust underneath but not terrible. It's my truck but 80,000 less miles and a diesel. I can get it pretty cheap at cost of what they have in it. Around $6800. I can probably break even by selling mine. So my question should I ? My truck is super clean inside out and in tip top shape. I'm torn... Keep in mine I will be towing a 9200# Travel trailer with in the next month or so. Thanks for your input!

6.0 or 7.3? If you're looking for a diesel it sounds like a great deal but gas or diesel there are the same issues chassis wise with sitting for a year.

It's a 7.3.

HA! I figured it out! I had no idea the 6.0 wasn't available the whole time, as short as this thing was made it seems like they would have done the same thing the whole way through.

As far as I know being a Ford Salesman, the 6.0 was not put into production until late 2002. I have been known to be wrong but I believe I am spot on in my thinking.

If you can break even why not do it. I know that parts are getting hard to find as I have a few customers and friends that have 7.3's and that is a big complaint from them. Not sure how how valid it is, but just food for thought

Knowing some of the issues I have encountered with my truck....I would check the intake, exhaust, turbo to look for damage first...

6.0's didn't make it into the Excursion until mid 2003 builds...

Plenty of engine parts available for all, but parts for the excursion are extremely harder to find with each passing year

My opinion....... get the diesel. Towing heavy is where they really shine. The 7.3 is one of the best engines ever installed in a pickup (or large SUV). I've got two of them. Plus..... you'll love the MPGs.

Hell I'd do the 7.3. But not a 6.0.

Ok so tomorrow I am going to have my guys at the shop to "quick clean " it up and run the scanner on it. I pulled the car fax it was bought from our Ford Dealer and always service there. So I can get all the service records. I saw where the tranny was rebuilt at 118000? I'm going to drive it home tomorrow what should I be checking for. I had a 2003 5.9 Dually 4x4 that I put about 250000 miles. But do not know much about the power stroke.

I'm shocked this is the way you feel, a well built 6.0 is amazing with crazy HP and TQ. Makes a 7.3 feel like your driving a turtle at best!

You could do an oil cooler and studs without even reading directions! Lol

David, you take that statement back! I would except it by almost anyone else here, but you? Mr. I'm building this and that and making things fit that shouldn't
