First truck - 1993 F-250

I picked up my first truck yesterday, it's a '93 F-250HD XLT. It's two wheel drive, has a 300l6 and a ZF 5 speed. First on the to do list is fix everything it needs before I start doing anything major. My plan is to drop the rear to be level with the front, freshen up the engine for some more power (she's a dog), and some 17x9s or 20x10s with street tires. Keep it clean and classy

I'm keeping them on the truck until I can afford the new wheels and tires which are a pretty penny. I might sell the aluminum wheels after that and run steelies in the winter.

Thanks! The body is pretty much rust free, there's a hole inside the cab right by the seatbelt that needs fixed. Other than that it looks pretty normal compared to other trucks around here.

Changed the oil and put a new radio in the truck today. That was fun laying in the slush under the truck, not.

One thing I've noticed about the truck is that every so often at idle it'll miss and shake the truck a little. It idles at just below 1000rpm which I don't think is right for when it's warmed up. Any idea what could cause all of that?

Thanks
Dom

It could probably use a tune up, that could fix the miss you're getting.

And the idle speed sounds fine, both of my trucks idle at about 800 once warmed up.

Vacuum leak would be my first guess.

Tune up was the next thing I wanted to do. If that doesn't fix it I'll look around for what might need fixed and start crossing things off the list until it's gone. Thanks guys

I also have the 5.8, and it idles just below that... maybe 650ish.

As for the miss, mine had a very bad miss when I first got it. It turned out to be a wiring issue caused by some hungry rodents (it sat for 4 years before I bought it). It took the shop a while to find it because it's not typical.

I'm buying plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and a fuel filter tonight to see if that get rids of the miss. If not at least those will be out of the way

650 rpm does seem a little low, I have a 5.8L, a 7.5L, and we used to have a 5.0L, and they all idle at 800 once warm.

Didn't get the cap and rotor or fuel filter for the truck, but whoever did plugs and wires on the truck before didn't do too good of a job because I was able to take out a few with just my hand. Crazy. Either way the truck runs much better now.

Next on the list is front tires so I can get her inspected. I'm not sure if I should go with LT235/85r16 like the door says or if I should get LT265/75R16 which is what's already on it. Or do I even need LT tires? Some people say I do and others aren't sure.
