transmission stuck in drive always

I have a 90 f-250 4 wdr with the 41od tranny ,c-6 with the overdrive gear, andi changed my fluid and filter because I had some minor slippage now it thinks it's in drive no matter where I put the lever r d 1 2 3 and while in park my engine acts as though it's under a load, in gear, is it my torque converter? Please help in homeless and cannot afford a rebuild but can do a TC change myself

Any codes? Have you checked the linkage?

Have you actually crawled under the truck and watched the linkage move back and forth when someone is shifting through the gears? Have you made sure the linkage isn't slipping around the shifter pawl? I'm not so good with automatics but these are the things I'd check first.

Sounds to me like you accidentally unhooked the manual valve from the linkage inside the trans.

F250s never came with an AOD. So that means it is an E4OD.

It can't possibly be the TC. It can be disconnected linkage, or the minor slippage damaged the forward clutch and it's now welded together. Those are the only two possibilities I can come up with.

Yep.... never retreat, just attack from a different angle!!

Since you said it seemed to be under load in park, I guess this means park actually works, does it? If so this would indicate that the linkage is good up to the transmission. I'll bet you knocked something out of place when you had the pan off to change the filter.

I had the same problem on my old truck. It turned out to be a bad shift cable that completely fell apart.
