Help - Is my F250 stock height or lifted?

Hi folks. I'm going to buy Bilsteins ( at this point I'm not sure if I'll get the HD or the 5100 model ) to replace the worn-out "Rancho" shocks on my 2005 F250 CCLB SRW. I bought the truck used. If I can get the photos to post...can someone tell me if the truck looks to be stock ride height? I have a profile shot of the truck and a photo of the rear axle - where it seems to have a lift block on it - but I can't tell if it is factory or not. It has 18" wheels from a later model F250 - the stock 17" wheels were gone before I bought the truck.

I just want to be sure I order the right shocks - seems they are different for 0-2 vs 2+ inches of lift over stock?

Thanks fellas,

Ron

Looks stock height to me for a 4X4. Those look like the OE Rancho branded shocks that came with the FX4 package too.

x2 on the OE, one for sure way is to remove one shock front and one rear, use the mustang to drive to the parts store and measure the new shock against the old, or you could just use a tape measure when the shocks are removed.

Good looking ride though.

Thanks fellas. I appreciate the compliments! But the '66 doesn't play in the snow ( or the rain for that matter ).

I thought those Ranchos were probably the factory pieces but those blocks on the axle had me second-guessing. I have had to do a LOT of maintenance on the truck since buying it 15 months ago...so that's another reason to think the shock are original to the truck. Time to research those Bilsteins and do some price-shopping!!

That's a sharp looking truck Ron !

Love that color.
It's the same color as both of my Super Duties.

Cool looking Mustang as well !

Haha - thanks ALMACK! I do like the dark metallic grays. My '14 GT is Sterling Gray Metallic and I love the way it pops in the bright sun! My '66...well I've had it since 1992...and went thru a greuling 8-year restoration / modification...drove it for 12 years or so...then pulled it off the road for round #2 of mods. Now she's running a 331 stroker with a custom roller cam, canfield heads, an Astro A-5 manual tranny, and a Paxton Novi 1200 at about 7 pounds of boost, putting 486 horses to the wheels. There are a lot of cars out there that are faster...but going fast in a vintage car is a whole different animal - you feel and hear everything - you're not insulated from the outside like with these new hotrods. She needs a LOT more tire under her than the 225's I can currently squeeze under there. Hopefully in the next few years I'll get her mini-tubbed and caged so I can start really having fun at the local road courses and drag strips.

Back to the truck...I like it a lot - but like I said the maintenance has been killing me since I bought it. I just had new plugs put in it 2 weeks ago and my mileage seems to have improved from the 8.19 mpg on the last tank. Yes....8.19...UGH!!! I should need to fill up in a few days so that will tell me how much better it is running.

On the bright side...when the shop changed the plugs...NONE of them broke. I thought that was pretty amazing considering my recent luck with this truck...and that the plugs were the originals with 92k miles on them.

Thanks again for the help! I'll report back when I get around to buying and installing the new shocks.

I finally ordered the Bilstein 5100's the other day and they're supposed to arrive tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will be good enough for me to install them over the weekend. I can't wait - the ride is SO harsh on bad roads right now.

Let us know how those Bilsteins work out for you. I need to replace my stock shocks and trying to decide which brand to buy for my ride.

After gutting half of our kids' bathroom today (FUN!!!!) and catching the new Fast & Furious movie with my little female gearhead I got the rears installed. Top nut on the fronts wouldn't budge for me though. I soaked them with PB Blaster tonight. Maybe they'll break loose tomorrow for me. What's the trick on the front upper shock bolts? Seems like I had to get it from the engine compartment with some wobblers extensions and an impact gun? I'll do a search and see what I can find. I might have an hour or so to tinker tomorrow before we head out to my parents' for Easter. Happy Easter folks!

Well even with only the new rears installed there is a HUGE improvement in ride quality. Hopefully I will have time this week to install the fronts.
