'76 F250 with 429/NP435 no crank/no start issue

Good morning everyone.

I have an issue that I've been chasing since Sunday and need a hand. I've got my 76 F250 Highboy with 429 that won't crank. On Sunday I went to the local Pick n Pull to get some go fast goodies for my Chevelle. I took the truck and all day it started and ran like an absolute champ. I stopped off to pick up my new drill press and when I got back in the truck nothing happened. No crank and no solenoid click. I popped the hood and played with the battery cables at the solenoid turned the key and it fired right up. Perfect! Drove home to unload everything shut it off, and then went to move it again and no dice. The solenoid doesn't even try to click. The solenoid is less than a month old, all the battery cables are new, the battery is about a year old.

I pulled the dash apart to check wires at the ignition switch and found everything connected but it's a little hokey. Does anyone have a good wiring diagram for our trucks they would be willing to share? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Andrew

tighten the battery cables at the posts and again at the solenoid and grounds to block.

You had a problem, solved it around the solenoid, and then had the same problem - why are you looking somewhere else?

I would be 100% sure things are perfect where you originally had the issue.

I have tightened and cleaned the posts, terminals, and connections. Everything is square and good under the hood at the battery and solenoid. The reason I went under the dash is because this truck sat in a field for a few years before I bought it in January. I'm starting to find more and more wiring issues under the dash from the previous owner. I just want to cover all my bases and make this truck better because it is my daily driver and my girlfriend drives it everyonce in a while when she has to do stuff with her horse and the last thing I want is for the two of them to be stranded somewhere.

Maybe, just maybe, the neutral safety switch? Try cranking it on neutral. If it does. Than that's probably the problem.

NP435 doesn't have a NSS... AFAIK

Check Grounds from battery, to engine, to frame, to cab. Check with a testlight or multimeter stuff at the starter relay. See if there is voltage from the ignition switch to relay, check voltage to starter, from battery. The I terminal (if used) should get voltage too and is used to send full voltage to the ignition coil.

Hopefully this susses out your problem. Good luck!

So i got under the dash again today and found that the wiring to the plug on the ignition switch is a little crispy... I removed the pigtail to solder in new wires and connectors, but and I cant believe i did this I didnt take a picture of the proper pinout for the connector...So now i'm stuck with some wires and a useless piece of plastic on my workbench. I looked through the stickies and found a picture that kinda helps but because someone monkey'd around with the wiring already I would really like to see a good picture/pinout diagram for the ignition switch.

All the Red "Read First" threads are there to help...ck them out. Like this one....

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...then-some.html

Click and save pic on a lap top under your own Ford truck info pic folder, that way you have them all the time, internet or not. And they open faster...

Thanks for posting those. I guess I should have been a little more clear. I saw those and have them saved from the stickies but it doesn't really make sense to me. I apologize for the vagueness of my post.

What I would really love is if someone had a picture of the pigtail from their truck so I can see the wire colors to relocate the wires. The wires from the truck harness are already removed from the pigtail connector and a few of them are so bad you can't tell what color they are. I need to put them back the way they should be so I don't let the magic smoke out.

How about just the connector and then how about the connector still in the ignition switch and it "in hand"?

I have a few setting around...last 2 are 2 different ones.
