Hello, I drive an 04 expedition 5.4l with 156k I have a problem were whenever I hit a small pothole or maybe a strong enough wind the truck wants to swerve from side to side, bad enough to where I have to let go of the gas in order to stop it. I have taken it to my long time mechanic to have him look it over and he says everything in the front end is nice and tight... I'm stumped on what to do, he mention that maybe the shocks and struts were bad but I don't think blown shocks will cause the truck to sway the way it does. I'm pretty stumped here because i can't find the shocks and stirs for less then 100 a piece and I don't wanna blow that kind of money for no reason... Any help will be appreciate it
Something doesn't sound right. For you to sway as much as stated, there's something "loose" up there.
From sway bars, to ball joints, pitman, or control arm, you won't make a accidental right turn without everything being tight.
I'd agree, take it to an alignment shop who specialize in these issues.
Those are both suspension-unload events (wind-lift, wheel-drop). Could be valving in the shocks is gone or sway bar link bushings are worn (doubt that since your friend looked it over). If you do find that it's shocks, I recommend the bilsteins. They aren't the average shock, but they will make an Expy handle better than new.
Thank u guys for the responses👍👍👍 I think me saying swerves was a bit much is more of a sway back and forth... To me it def feels like a sway bar issue or shocks... I'm not too familiar with the way these full size SUVs should ride since the biggest car I ever owned was a trailblazer... I'm going to take it to a placed around me called mr. Tires and have them put it up on the alignment rack n double check everything out
