Throttle Body Fuel Injection. Looks like a carburetor on top of the intake manifold but will have two inverted dome shaped injectors firing down onto the venturis.
If you think that looks like a crappy idea, that's because it is. GM could not invent a working port fuel injection system that didn't infringe on Bosch patents, so they gave up on the idea and sulked for a couple decades rather than do what everyone else did and just buy a license.

theres always a possibility someone swapped the tbi out for a carb, but its easy to see whether its carb or not in person.
interesting note. I don't like tbi, but its not really that bad of a system for all intents and purposes of the normal person. and they are abuuuuuuuuundaaaant as hell.

I owned a tbi van for 5ish years, i didnt drive it all the time but someone normally was using it. I never had a problem with it even in some 0* weather...sold it with 200k for peanuts but it still ran good.
on the other end of the spectrum, when I was 18 I had an old 86 buick "4tec" for a beater that I got for free, and it was a poopbox. hard to start when it was moist (humid or precip). I kept a can of ether with me for those times.

that's more like a 2/5 ton truck...actually mid-high teens for mpg isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. hes still not regularly averaging 19, but that's a small and light truck...id say 15-16 avg more like it regardless. but, seeing the truck, i recant my statement about the seller being an idiot based solely off mpg claims.

I loved my '93 GMC Sierra. Wish I hadn't sold it. The Z71 is an awesome truck.
Nothing wrong at all with the injection system, but I'd be surprised if that truck could get 19 average with a 4x4. I know the base model V8 can get around that much driven gently.
And sorry to say this here in Ford world... About America's biggest selling truck. The GM pickups outsell Ford if you add together both Chevy and GMC sales. Let's just say both Ford and GM make great full size pickups, bless 'me all.
