Diesel or Gas Engine Swap?

Hi All,

I have a 95 F150 standard cab with the 5.0 302. I just picked it up back in october for my birthday and im really enjoying it. The pipes started smoking slightly awhile back and I believe it may have a damaged head gasket. I'm looking at just going ahead a swapping the engine. I'm looking at doing a 351w or a diesel swap. What are your thoughts and suggestions on this?

Further Info: The truck has the E4OD tranny, is lifted six inches, running 35x12.5's, and true dual pipes. Everything is in good order except for he smoke that shows up whenever I mash the gas hard enough.

Also, does anyone know of a good shop around Fort Gordon, GA that does good honest work? I'm in the Navy and will be transfering there in April.

Thanks

351 swap all day long. I personally am not that big on diesels in F150s. Plus with a 351 swap you can keep your stock transmission.
Plus some (I believe most) parts from your 302 will work on the 351.

I read through that a bit, but as mentioned it turned into more about street legal diesel and farm diesel. Also, the OP of that thread and I have different needs for the truck. His was a farm/work truck and mine is just something to go have fun driving around town or out in the country on the weekends.

Everything you mentioned in that thread seemed pretty valid though.

Well I agree with Trav, 351 all the way. Easiest to modify for more power, easiest to find parts for, and will give you all the fun you can stand!

Yea, sometimes we go off-topic a little don't we!

I agree. The 351 with a bit of knowledge and money can build one fun street machine.

I don't mind going off topic (trust me I do it a lot) just when it goes into legal talk I don't care to comment because for one I don't know all the laws and two I don't want to get anybody in trouble.

I have had both the 302 and now the 351 and can tell the difference in power. If it was me I'd go with the 351 any day, especially for a truck that isn't towing for a living
