2012 Expedition EL Remote Start

I just bought a 2012 Expedition EL King Ranch 4x4 today and the original window sticker and a tag under the hood says it has remote start, however my key does not have a remote start button. Is there a way I can tell for sure that the remote start is indeed installed and hooked up?

On your truck, if it has one, all the components should be up under the dash on the drivers side. there will be a remote start module as well as the PATS interface module. You can check out David One on youtube, or search Ford Expedition with Sync remote start installation. He has several videos going over the installation of a 100 series remote start, which should give you a good idea of what everything looks like and where it is.

It definitely sounds like you truck has one installed, especially since it is on the original window sticker and has the under hood sticker. I think that with your year, when they were ordered from the factory with remote start, that they were still dealer installed. Perhaps the previous owner lost the separate remote start key fob. I just installed one on my expy (2010) and it included a sticker for under the hood.

Thank you hank_2010, I'll check those videos out. Also the dealer called today and said the previous owner found one of the remote start fobs, but didn't specify whether or not he said the remote start worked, but I'm assuming it does since he has a remote.

Thats great news, glad you don't have to spring the cash to buy a new remote fob. So your expy definitely has remote start then. When you get the fob post up a pic of it. Id assume its the 100 series but it could be the bi-direction like i have. This is what my remote start fob looks like

Finally got my remote start fob today. It does work, however it turns off the engine as soon as the door is opened, which seems dumb that I have to restart my engine when it was just running. Here's a pic of it:

I found this info from the F-150 section, but don't know where the programming/override button is

Glad that it works, its definitely a one direction remote start, most likely the 100 series. Not to worry, the door open, engine off is an easy fix, just watch this video and follow the steps. The reprograming button should be affixed up under the drivers side foot well, just as in the video. If you can't find it, just by looking, you might have to take the knee panel off. If I remember correctly, it only has 3 or 4 bolts and a couple snaps and it provides much better access to the override/ programming button.

I believe that they are set to run for 10 minutes and you can change that to 15, if you are interested while you have everything torn apart.

good luck

I know this is a long shot. Soccer85 could you tell me where you got your remote start fob for your 2012 Expedition EL? I need a replacement for my 2010 F-150 and cannot find it anywhere. Thank you for your time.

I called the dealership I bought it from and they got in contact with the previous owner who still had the remote fob in his possession, so he brought it them and they mailed it to me. I'm sorry that doesn't help you any. That was over 7 years ago. I do remember going to the dealer close to where I live, but even back then they couldn't seem to find the same fob.

Ok. Thank you for the reply. I went to my local dealership the other day. The parts guy said he'd never seen one like that and that it must have been an aftermarket add on. Despite me ordering the truck through them and that was the fob handed to me with my keys and other fobs when I took delivery of the truck. The top of the fob I have left, other one lost trout fishing lol, got the top where it attaches to key ring broken when my son fell with the keys. it still works just no attachment point. So, I may just JB Weld it, drill a hole, and attach a key ring if I can't find one. Just basically looking for the case itself. Thanks again, have a good day.

Definitely not an aftermarket, I think they changed the design of the remotes, which is why you can't find that one anymore. I traded mine in almost 3 years ago and the new ones have the remote start on the key itself, so fortunately I don't have to worry about mine anymore.

I just checked ebay and found this one along with others, maybe that'll be what you need:
