Is the starter from DB electrical still the better choice or has someone found a better one out there? If so, which one is the one at DB?
My starter has been on borrowed time for a while but i think its definitely about done now. I about to sink a lot of money into the truck to get her back up to snuff and figured I would take care of that at the same time. I think it possibly still the original starter. I have known the truck since 2006 and bought it in 2009. Before i bought it, the GPR was bad and the starter was made hot quite a few times in an attempt to crank it. I fixed the gpr right after i bought it.
It is about to get a new T500, IPR rebuild and Icp sensor as well as fuel bowl rebuild. Some new tires are in order as well and I need a good tan seat for it. Even with those issues, i would not hesitate to go anywhere in it at 208k miles.
I installed a new not rebuilt Denso 2.5 kw p/n 028000-5584/12v/09n29, its not a china knock off, its performed well so far10k miles, but was quite expensive
Just like the alternator, Take your known original starter to a known, home town type auto electric shop and have them do a quality rebuild on it.-Its been starting your engine for the 208k miles you report.......whats wrong with that?
Supercab, I was actually going to do that as a backup. Guess I could do that as the primary instead. I thought that there was one out there that had been considered to be an improvement over the original one. Super gear reduction or something. May have been thinking about something else.
DB quality is no longer. There are lots of threads out there started by those who got bad DB starters, I gave up on them after two bad ones in a row. Like crop harvester says a genuine Denso is the way to go if you want the gear reduction. Not a Denso Chinese knock off like DB now sells.

Gotcha! In my book a good quality rebuild of a known original unit is as good as it gets.
For you or anyone else that DOESN'T have a good, known hometown type auto electric shop close by I recommend contacting Malabar Auto Electric in Palm Bay/Malabar Florida.
