The.'48-50 units are located behind the dash, above the speedometer. They came stock with only one wiper with a second controlled by a long arm as an option. Only operated by vacuum. The '51-52 had the motor, either electric or vacuum, located behind the dash but centered. The stock radios were mounted lower in the dash. I think all '51-52 had dual wiper units standard.

This is what I have..not sure the radio is in the correct place or what year, but I do have the vacuum motor with the single blade..it all seems to move freely, and the on/off windshield **** can be seen if you look closely.

You have a at stock radio, pretty rare and it looks to be in very good condition.

Now that we've determined that you have a vacuum motor and no vacuum running to it, why not try running a line from the manifold to the motor? The motor is probably dried out and won't work but it may just work.

Vacuum wiper motor Trico rebuild kits use to be readily available. A company that rebuilds wiper motors and use to sell kits (new paddle and gaskets) is Ficken in Babylon NY. I have a feeling that they no longer sell the kits but still rebuild. Careful disassemble, (the gaskets are fragile) cleaning and a relube may work for you.

"The Wiperman" (Ficken) will not sell parts. Just as well, I have called him twice over the last 20 years and he's so rude I would hate to give him any business. From the units I've disassembled, as long as the switching mechanism is OK, making a new seal for the piston looks do-able.

There aren't many parts in the wiper body. I took mine apart, cleaned carefully and "greased" with very small amount of vaseline and it works as well as the day it was new.

Keep in mind it has the hookup for the vacuum and an "exhaust" port. The second one was a little puzzling until I had it working and heard the hissing.

Ok so whats up with my 50 F6 dual wipers and the vac motor is in the
center like a 51-52?

Also a guy on Utube saying the best fix is ATF squirted in the vac port of
the motor while hand moving the wiper arm to suck the oil in there to swell
and lube the felts etc..

Ross,
The last time I dealt with them (bought parts) was in the 80's at Hershey. Is there another source that anyone knows about?

This search for parts comes up all the time on multiple forums, and the conclusion always is that there are a few NOS rebuild kits laying on shelves, but very hard to find. I'm really surprised Trico or someone like Ficken doesn't repro at least the piston seal, it would be easy, and the market large.

Thanks for the help.
If it's the stock vacuum motor, it should be directly behind the instrument panel. I'm thinking yours might night be stock if it's jammed against the radio.
