I couldn't be happier with them. Especially after my experience at Sheehy Ford of Ashland. I sent the owner, Eli Patrick, an e-mail letting him know how happy I was with how I was treated.

It hasn't always been that loud, it just got that way since around fall. I don't drive the truck a lot, which may add to it. I bought it new in Dec 2013 and I have 43k.
I've started paying more attention to it, and on my truck it seems that I don't get the ticking when engine is cold, only when it's hot. This leads me to believe that it could in fact be an oil issue.

I noticed that on the Mustang 5.0 with performance package, they spec 5W50 oil. I'm wondering if a 5W30 or 5W40 would actually be healthier for these engines long term instead of the 5W20 which is like water on a summer day. Hmmm....

Well, now, this thread caught my attention. My 2012 5.0 has in service date of 4/12/12, but only has 36,000 miles. No unusual noises now. It does not get much use in the winter. It is 2WD, and I hate salt. Besides, I have 2000 3.0 DOHC Taurus with 200,000 miles for that.

If nothing else, I will inquire about extended warranty. BTW, found this thread only because I want to learn about towing....

HELP PLEASE!
Is there an hidden warranty on this issue? My 2012 5.0 L truck is at 55,000 miles and has this problem. My power train warranty ran out last July.
I have had my truck since new and two Ford dealerships have diagnosed this as bottom engine noise. One has said already to put in a new engine.
Any advice I really could use.

Hi Mike, I have not heard of anyone being able to get a replacement engine out of warranty. Could try and reach out to ford service and see if they can be any help. Phone number: 800-392-FORD. Nott sure how helpful they will be but could be worth a shot .

Thanks, I know it's a long shot. It's my only vehicle and $9000 I don't have.
Might just have to run it and hope for the best.
Had it re-checked yesterday, compression, timing everything is running perfect.
I figured a piston problem or miss shaped cylinder would throw something off.

Thats what my truck sounds like now. I found out that my sound was coming from a loose heat shield. Finally found it and fixed the problem. Glad it wasn't anything serious..

Hey Guys/Gals. Is this knock/tick a ongoing thing? My 2016 F150 Lariat 5.0 with just over 72,000 K is in the shop right now due to a knock at idle and slight misfire. Worried as I'm past warranty. Man I hope this doesn't get expensive, my last truck was a 2006 5.4 and she cost me a mad bundle of cash fixing the timing chain and phaser issues. The knock is very apparent now that the weather is warm and after a trip towing a dead Civic through the mountains is when the misfire began.

BTW: Mine is 90% highway use and we tow a 24 Ft boat often from May-October. I've always ran synthetic oil and its changed well before recommended intervals. Trucks been a great performer otherwise, my only real disappointment has been fuel mileage. I also have a aftermarket Borla exhaust system, Bone stock otherwise.

Looks like you're in Canada? Your powertrain warranty should be to 100K if I'm not mistaken. Have you taken it to your local dealer?

I'm thinking you can get this fixed at no cost.

now I'm curious about mine, I just bought a 2011 in April 2018, only has 45k miles on it though. Now I get to go listen to my motor and hope I get lucky and don't need another one? GREAT info though. Thanks

Very odd...it showed on my subscriptions that there was a post made today. It appears it vanished.

Any update, Millett?

I hate to bring up an old topic, but has anyone ever looked at their oil pressure @ idle? I've been posting about this on a 2016...have a few videos on youtube...here's one of them:

Anyway, mine seems to be coming from cylinder 3 mostly. I haven't done an oil analysis, looked in the filter, or anything really (it's still under warranty so I don't feel like pulling anything off). I have been looking at oil pressure though using a scantool. My oil pressure is anywhere between 8-13 psi at hot idle. After seeing a few videos of other 5.0's at idle, this seems very low. I realize spec is 10-15 @ idle...but a lot of the mustang 5.0's are running 20-30 psi @ idle. I don't know if they're using 5W20 or higher, but either way, I'm thinking that oil pressure has something to do with it. Has anyone gotten a definitive answer as to what is causing this knock? I think it's a valve but have seen comments posted about warped cylinders, defective heads, bad bearings, etc. While not in the video, I also get the BBQ tick occasionally...but is very rare, have only heard it at frequency maybe a handful of times. Mine has 24,000 miles and is still under warranty but the dealership refuses to do anything with it. They say it's normal....

That's the exact tapping sound mine has. It has had it long as I can remember. I've got 104k on mine and bought it at ~25k miles, if I remember correctly. I was worried when I first saw this thread but have come to ignore it since the sound is different than the cylinder issues other have had. I run 5W20, Mobil 1. I may try a 5W30 next oil change and see if it makes any noticeable difference it sound. I doubt it will, but it won't hurt anything to try it out. It might actually be a good thing to do anyways, being that the coolest it is getting here right now is upper 70's at might and 100+ during the heat of the day .

my 5.0 doesn't sound like that.
But sounds exactly like my 2001 5.4 did.

always thought it was an injector but seemed to be too low on the block.
Sold her at 153k miles, with the exhaust manifold leaking once again.

Angry Brand NEW 5.0 tick

I picked up my 2018 Friday the 30th of August & on Saturday I noticed a fairly loud ticking from the back of the engine. Has to take it back to get a trailer brake controller installed & told the guys it was making a ticking sound that sounded like a old diesel fuel pump. I was told it was a "high pressure fuel pump & it is NORMAL for all 5.0 engines".
After reading some of these posts I wonder. If the dealer won't agree with me what should I do?
Again thhis truck has less than 500 miles & has made this ticking nosie since I drove it off the lot BRAND NEW.
